    Innovation and Communication Specialist

    Description:
    Research and Analysis

    •     Provide insights into consumer preferences and the current soybean marketplace in Nigeria as a means of informing the development of research initiatives aimed at spurring innovation. Serve as an in-house expert on innovation in soybean value chains by monitoring ongoing private and public sector developments. Work with IITA communications team to ensure coordination between the FMA soybean project and the organizational research agenda.
    •     Support organizational efforts to develop systems for knowledge management and coordination across teams. Content Creation Work with communications team to create messaging and identify opportunities to communicate results and findings for innovation initiatives.
    •     Serve as an author and creator of content aimed at sharing findings with the soybean innovation platform. Examples include issue briefs, presentations, blog posts, field demonstrations, events etc.

    Minimum Qualification & Experience :

    Project Administration Specialist

    Description:

    •     IITA seeks a qualified Project Administration Specialist to support various plant pathology and mycotoxin projects under the aegis of CGIAR Research Projects and funded by several other development investors.
    •     One of the major focus areas of the work is on biological control of aflatoxins.
    •     The objective of our research is to manage diseases and minimize mycotoxin contamination to improve health and enhance income of African farmers and consumers.
    •     We achieve these objectives by developing, testing and deploying disease and mycotoxin management practices on the foundation of a good knowledge base on key biological, environmental, institutional and policy drivers that influence disease development and mycotoxin contamination.
    •     Our research is conducted with all relevant public and private sector actors in the crop value chain and with the health sector plus key collaborators internal and external to IITA.

    Job Description :
    Research Project Planning and Management
        Develop and maintain plans to support research projects including task analyses, schedules, and resources needed.
        Establish and maintain cost, schedule, and technical performance standards for projects and proposals.

    Plant Pathologist

    Job Description :

    •     Provide leadership for interdisciplinary research leading to management of critical diseases in root and tuber, cereal, legume and vegetable cropping systems in Eastern, Southern and Central Africa.
    •     Diagnose and characterize pathogenic organisms by developing fit for purpose tools that are appropriate for use in field or laboratory. Understand pathogen epidemiology to develop and validate management practices and control interventions.
    •     Coordinate the implementation of pre-emptive, effective and sustainable systems for risk assessment, modelling, surveillance, extension and reporting to increase vigilance of agricultural systems as they become intensified and subject to climate change.     Post-doc Soil Fertility Management

    The project will deliver the following outcomes:
    (i) documentation of dual purpose legumes, cassava and yam production and utilization in the targeted countries;
    (ii) increased awareness of targeted smallholders of possible socio-economic and nutritional benefits of these crops; (iii) create expertise in the target countries on the production and use of the above technologies and practices,
    (iv) effective and profitable value chains for the target crops,
    (v) an improved crop production environment. The overall benefit of the proposed research will be the adoption by farmers of higher yielding and more sustainable cropping systems.
    Position/Responsibilities The Post-doc Soil Fertility Management will report to the Director for Central Africa. He/she will be responsible for delivering the project milestones in DR Congo, under direct supervision of the Root and Tuber Agronomist, based in Ibadan, Nigeria, and the Project Leader, based in Bukavu, DR Congo.

    More specifically, he/she will:

    •     Lead the planning of research activities in DR Congo
    •     Lead the implementation of the various activities planned for Congo
    •     Liaise with partners within the cooperating national agricultural research systems to ensure all activities are implemented with the highest rigor and quality.
    •     Supervise MSc trainees engaged in the context of the project. Assist the Project Leader in ensuring a timely dispatch of the necessary resources to all partners.
