    Postdoctoral Fellow - Genetics & Breeding

    Responsibilities
    The post-Doctoral fellow will be a part of a multi-disciplinary research team of AfricaRice.
    S/he reports to the Lowland Rice Breeder under the Genetic Diversity and ImprovementProgram. S/he will undertake the following activities which are not limitative:
    ? Establish and validate protocols to screen rice for abiotic stress tolerance
    (drought/submergence/Fe-toxicity);
    ? Develop mapping populations to conduct genetic studies in stress tolerance;
    ? Identify genes/QTLs associated with abiotic stress tolerance;
    ? Initiate MAS to introgress major QTLs for abiotic stress tolerance;
    ? Assist in screening breeding populations for abiotic stress tolerance;
    ? Prepare presentations and publish research results;
    ? Undertake any other duties as requested by supervisor

    Qualifications/Selection Criteria
    Education: PhD in genetics, breeding or related fields
    Work Experience: Substantive field experience in agricultural research in a developing country; experience in abiotic stress research in cereals; experience in molecular marker technology; experience in Africa would be an asset
    Key Competencies Required: practical knowledge of rice production ecologies in Africa and the challenges confronting farmers in the region; familiarity with molecular approaches involving DNA, marker, QTL technologies; ability to work in a multicultural setting Language. The candidate should communicate fluently (orally and in writing) in English with a good working knowledge of French.

    o This is an internationally recruited position.

    o The initial appointment is for two years with the possibility for renewal.
