  • The American University of Nigeria (AUN) was established in 2003 by Nigeria's former Vice President His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar along with other local and international statesmen and academic leaders. The institution was conceived as Africa's first Development University. Its mission is to pioneer service learning and build leaders who will be prepared to tackle societal concerns. Located in Yola, Adamawa State, the University is a world-class career-oriented institution missioned to be an agent of change in the development of the region. AUN has a strong commitment to providing the skills and the leadership essential to solving the continent's critical social and economic problems. The university offers an American-style education modelled after the curriculum of American universities with corresponding approaches to teaching and students assessment. The first entering class of 124 students and 20 professors was enrolled in September 2005. The University started on temporary buildings at the AUN Academy located directly opposite the AUN campus. In seven years, AUN is fast becoming a model for other universities in Nigeria and West Africa.

    The American University of Nigeria, Yola, is seeking a TV/Documentary Producer/Broadcast News Reporter. This position is a local one open to indigenous and/or legal residents of Nigeria:

    TV/Documentary Producer/Broadcast News Reporter

     

    Location: Adamawa
    Department: Office of Communication

    Position Summary
    The TV/Documentary Producer/Broadcast News Reporter is responsible for coverage, high professionalizing, voice over and productive contribution to the unit and departments goal attainment. These duties are carried out in accordance to AUN policies and procedures. The position reports directly to the Communications manager.

    Position Requirements

    •     A Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication or related field from a recognized tertiary institution.
    •     At least two (2) years post-qualification experience.
    •     Must have practical experience working in TV production.
    •     Experience in writing broadcast news.
    •     Ability to work with minimum supervision.

    Remuneration
    Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience and job classification as approved by the University.

    Videographer/Photojournalist

     

    Location: Adamawa
    Department: Office of Communication

    Position Summary
    The AUN Videographer/Photojournalist will be responsible for a top quality video summary of each week of AUN activities. The Videographer will edit and create weekly AUN activities DVD videos and photo album or slideshow. During staff training the Videographer will create a staff video and at the end of the summer they will create a separate promotional video of AUN activities. This position will be responsible for media related projects throughout the academic year, including production of media projects for campaigns, marketing, and general branding.

    Position Requirements

    •     A bachelor's degree in video photography or related discipline at a recognized institution.
    •     At least five years working experience from a reputable organization
    •     Demonstrable knowledge in the use of latest editing software
    •     Excellent knowledge of camera types, functions and variations
    •     Professional knowledge of core responsibility.
    •     Good journalism experience in multimedia coverage
    •     Strong language skills.

    News Reporter - Print Specialization

     

    Location: Adamawa
    Department: Office of Communication

    Position Summary
    The News Reporter (Print Specialization) is responsible for coverage, high professionalizing, voice over and productive contribution to the unit and departments goal attainment. These duties are carried out in accordance to AUN policies and procedures. The position reports directly to the Communications manager.

    Position Requirements

    •     A Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication or related field from a recognized tertiary institution.
    •     At least three (3)years print journalism experience in a national newspaper)
    •     Must produce samples of written work.
    •     Strong language skills.

    Remuneration
    Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience and job classification as approved by the University.
