    Media & Communications Officer

    ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES
    The role presents a unique opportunity to portray the foundation’s work and create robust visibility for the foundation through social media and other relevant platforms. The officer will be in charge of day-to-day communication with the Foundations’ existing partners to ensure that wider benefits are secured and long term goals are achieved and reported to the board.

    The officer will:

    1. Develop and Manage the Foundation’s Media, PR and Communications Strategy.
    2. Monitor graphic standards for logo usage, promotional restrictions and partner recognition program to ensure what partners offer are proportionate to benefits delivered whilst liaising with the media and PR team.

    In addition:

    Social Media

    • Updating and monitoring engagements on the foundations social media platforms
    • Finding and developing relevant content of interest to our audience
    • Tracking traffic to social media platforms and sending reports to the board on a monthly basis
    • Developing interactive and innovative online campaigns, contests and competitions
    • Archiving social media content and press releases
    • Developing video podcasts with key research information and data for the website
    • Create and maintain a content editorial calendar
    • Uploading videos, photo albums, etc.
    • Finding users to follow/friend/like our business
    • Writing and posting blog posts/tweets/updates
    • Tracking the growth and the impact of social media on our organization
    • Replying to comments, messages, etc.

    Print Media

    • Writing press releases for publishing in newspapers and online blogs/websites
    • Securing radio stations to advertise the foundations’ activities

    Email Newsletters

    • Designing and updating email newsletters sent to members and other stakeholders
    • Research on education, employability, unemployment, entrepreneurship and relevant legislation for updates to the foundations resource section and podcasts
    • Liaising with the Policy and Research Team to gain relevant content for our media platforms

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:  President of the Executive Council

    SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

    • 1-2-year experience in media and communication
    • Big picture strategist and outside of the box creativity.
    • Ability to proactively take actions necessary to produce results and work independently/with little guidance.
    • Detail-oriented and self-motivated, ensuring quality and consistent output.
    • Excellent communication skills including excellent skills in social media platform usage
    • Demonstrated knowledge of trends in media and communication space
    • Must be very well organized with knowledge of colour theory

     EDUCATION

    • A university degree in public relations, languages, English, communications, business administration, business management or a related field of study
    • Knowledge of photography will be an added advantage.
    • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
    • Proficiency in cloud software applications (Skydrive, DropBox, Google Docs)

    SOS Careers Program Support Officer (VolunteerR)

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES 

    • Plan the Programs
      • Develop integrated program management plan – communication, stakeholder relation, personnel, budget, risk assessment, club structure governance structure, management and charter, program charter, grant chart, etc.
      • Plan the delivery of program components in accordance with the integrated program management plan.
      • Develop new initiatives to support the strategic direction of the organization.
        • Ensure all feedback evaluation forms by the Consultants/ consulting firms, trainers, experts, participants and other relevant team members are completed, collected and assessed through collaboration with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Research team.
        • Develop a program evaluation framework to assess the strengths and identify areas for improvement.
        • Ensure all project documentation and material is provided to the participants and trainers as due
        • Responding to the specific needs of the students
        • Conduct relevant research and feasibility studies as required to develop integrated program management plan and update assumptions.
        • Develop and update program management documentation.
        • Develop forms and records to document program activities.

    Research and Advocacy Consultant

    ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES
    The core role of the Research and Advocacy Consultant is to research documents on education and employability and strategically analyze findings in line with guiding policies in order to make informed ideologies. The Consultant has to be abreast with educational trends so as to up scale the Foundation’s educational policies.

    The duties of the Research and Advocacy Consultant are highlighted below: 

    Methodology

    • Gathering Data, Research Educational Policy and Trends & Identify relevant stakeholders
    • Diagnose the problems and gaps where intervention is required
    • Research innovative tools, resources and policies deployed in other developing countries
    • Conducting analysis, summarising and explaining research finds and their implications for our resource section
    • Providing data for our baseline expansion to other states
    • Producing policy and advocacy papers
    • Producing opinion pieces
    • Producing videos and podcasts

    Reporting Relationship:  Senior Program Manager

    SKILLS and EXPERIENCE 

    • Excellent written and verbal communication,advocacy, strong editing skills  
    • Superior Writing and Research Skills

    • 6th Edition: National Policy on Education (2013)
    • Implementation Guidelines for the 6th Edition
    • National Policy on Science and Education
    • 4 year strategic plan for development of the education sector 2011-2015

    Step 2: For each document, create a summary report (in more than 2 pages per report) with the following headings:

    • Objectives of the policy
    • Success/Expected Outcomes of the policy
    • Metrics for the measurement of success of the policy
    • Initiatives, Plans and Ideas proposed in the policy with respect to:
      • Curriculum
      • Teacher training and development
      • Standards and Quality Assurance
      • Technical and Vocational Education & Training
      • Institutional Management of Education
      • Science and Technology Education
      • Career Guidance & Counselling

    Step 3: Develop a chart on the national education system similar to the chart below. In addition, ensure you provide the following info with respect to below:

    • Age of target youth e.g. 12-18
    • Duration of education level e.g. 6 years
    • Requirements for Entry e.g. Primary School Leaving Certificate + Common Entrance Examination + Minimum Age of 12
    • Name of Certificate upon completion
    • Use of certification e.g. SSCE allows you to enter a polytechnic, college of education or university
    • Ability to be employed using the certification. If yes, where?

    • Impact so far
    • Monitoring and evaluation metric
    • Your proposal on how SOSF can partner with them if at all

    Step 7: Please gather data in the excel spread sheet titled ‘Education Database Requirements’ for each of the states below through desktop study and qualitative data (interviews). See also attached expansion plan (ppt)
