  • The Community Capacity Building Advisor (CCBA) 

    Overall Responsibilities
    The Community Capacity Building Advisor (CCBA) will provide overall direction in strengthening community systems for improved health and HIV service-delivery with particular focus on building capacity of CSOs and local traditional institutions to link and network with health facilities, LGA and other local institutions and resources.

    Specific Responsibilities
    * Take lead in the development of MSH Community Capacity Building strategy that links individuals, CBOs, CSOs, community leaders (traditional and faith-based) and local governments to constitute a network of community facilitators for improved health.
    * In collaboration with staff of the community directorate and others, take responsibility for development and implementation of MSH community capacity development program maximizing the synergies between the community HIV care, treatment and prevention programs.
    * Be responsible for overall management of the project grants program in collaboration with the grants manager, COMU and the community directorate. This will entail ensuring they have capacity for planning, monitoring, coordination, resource mobilization, accountability for results, reporting and documentation of good practices and evidence-based decision-making.
    * Coordinate the provision of high-quality institutional capacity building for grantee CSOs and CBOs to strengthen organizations’ systems towards greater sustainability and achievement of their missions.  It is expected that technical assistance will focus both on building stronger organizations and on developing individuals to lead them to achieving results.
    * Provide technical assistance to selected traditional leadership structures to become champions in building model community system for improved health.
    * Coach grantee CSOs in community profile analysis, community monitoring and evaluation, and business development for increased access to grants and other resources.
    * The CCBA will serve as a resource for identifying best practices, lessons learned, and innovative approaches to community capacity building, and for disseminating this information in a manner that attracts attention and action by policymakers and stakeholders at the community, health facilities, state, national and international levels.
     
    Qualifications
    * A postgraduate degree – preferably in social sciences, behavioural sciences, humanities or business development.
    * A minimum of five years experience in building organizational capacity of community based organizations or local communities in Nigeria with evidence of models of practice is a must. The applicant must possess significant senior level work experience in institutional capacity building across the areas of finance, human resources, governance, and planning, and organizational development.
    * Experienced in project management particularly in the field of HIV/AIDS will be an advantage.
    * Knowledge of PEPFAR-funded programs and USAID rules and regulations is required.
    * Proven programmatic, technical, and managerial ability and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with professional colleagues in a broad range of indigenous governmental organizations and NGOs.
    * Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
    * Strong facilitation skills
    * Supervisory experience required
    * Ability to produce results in diverse cultural, social, and language contexts.
    * Demonstrated computer skills in MS Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    * Willingness to travel within Nigeria regularly and potentially outside Nigeria, as required.

    Operation Research Advisor 

    Overall Responsibilities
    The Operations Research Advisor position is to mainstream research scientific tenacity in selected project interventions so as to generate solid evidence for influencing decision-making at the community and health facility service-delivery points, project, partners and State and National Government levels. 
     
    Specific Responsibilities 
    * With support from the Project Directors and staff, lead development of project strategy for the conduct of operations research that avails models of health/HIV care that is effective and sustainable. 
    * Work with other Project Directors and staff to develop, implement and monitor the project research operations plan.
    * Work closely with the Project Directors and staff to design and implement more elaborate studies that will strategically provide the project with the necessary evidence to demonstrate successful interventions and best practices within the communities MSH works in and the facilities we support.
    * Support project staff in the analysis, preparation and submission of journal and conference abstracts and papers that contribute to the body of knowledge in health and HIV/AIDS management and health systems strengthening.
    * The Operations Research Advisor will be responsible for conducting and coordinating base-line, midterm, end-line surveys and rapid situation analysis and assessments of project interventions  and monitor routine data collection to ensure high quality data of the project
    *  Take responsibility for regularly digging into the M&E data and flagging weaknesses and issues that require program attention.
    * Take responsibility for presenting research findings in a manner that attracts attention and action by policymakers and stakeholders at the community, health facilities, state, national and international
     
    Qualifications
    * An advanced degree in Epidemiology, Health Systems Research, Advanced Statistics or Social Sciences is a must. The candidate must be proficient in descriptive, inferential, and advanced statistical methods.
    * A minimum of 3 years mid-level experience in conducting operations research and use of data to inform decision-making, planning, resource allocation, and other strategic initiatives in large internationally funded health programs is mandatory
    * Experience in managing research involving multiple stakeholders and building capacity of others to undertake operations research will be an added advantage.
    * Demonstrable experience in program management, health systems strengthening and HIV/AIDS technical programming.
    * Excellent communications skills, including writing and oral presentation skills.
    * Must be hard working and skilled in taking on multiple task at the same time while marinating the highest quality achievable

    Communication Officer 

    Overall Responsibilities
    The Communications Officer will be responsible for supporting the smooth operation of MSH communication drive to maximize visibility of the contribution MSH Nigeria projects is making to the people of Nigeria with support from USAID. She/he will work with MSH Director for Communications, Project Directors, Technical Advisors, Communication Volunteers and where necessary with partner organizations to support visibility of project results. 
     
    Specific Responsibilities
    Under the direct supervision of the Director for Communications, support the implementation of the MSH Nigeria Communication Strategy, assisting to bring out “cause-result relationships” in the work we do. The officer will:
    * Generate creative ideas for success stories/news nuggets, briefs and other information items. Generate photographs/video-recordings about MSH activities.
    * Draft and edit written communication materials to print-ready status.
    * Support management of ProACT Communication Team, collating materials generated by technical teams and field offices and mentoring NYSC interns.
    * Manage MSH Nigeria website and support management of MSH Nigeria Communications Folder on SharePoint and shared drive.
    * Draft Press Releases and facilitate effective engagement with the Media to create visibility for MSH projects;
    * Attend, document meetings as required; make inputs into reports/Newsletters etc.
    * Serve as a resource to and operational liaison between ProACT Project (FCT and States), the Communications Unit and other MSH projects.
    * Support timely submission of ProACT reports and documents to the MSH Country Director/SMT and MSH HQ as required; manage soft and hard copies of folders documenting Pro-ACT success stories and photographs in FCT and States of operation.
    * Conduct and/or support other communication/logistics duties as assigned by supervisor.
    * Organize Press Conferences/Media coordination and MSH public events – supporting the preparation of Conference agendas/technical materials, invitations etc.
    * Support the process of Newsletter design and compilation; production of other printed communication materials – posters, brochures, etc.
    * Undertake regular strategic travel to supported States to capture stories of events.

    Qualifications
    * Masters Degree in the Liberal Arts, Social or other Sciences.  Four years post-qualification work experience (with Masters Degree) or six years post-qualification communication-relevant experience may be considered as a substitute for Masters in exceptional cases of demonstrated high aptitude for writing.
    * Exemplary verbal/written English language and drafting skills – and evidence of interest in reading widely and writing, essential.
    * Proven track record in communication/creative writing with capacity for strategic-thinking
    * At least one-year supervisory-level work in development programming or communication. Works independently and takes initiative.
    * Capable of assessing priorities and multi-tasking in a work-intensive situation. Must be good at time-management, especially in meeting deadlines with attention to detail and quality.
    * Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as an effective team member in a complex and fast-paced environment; Good office/organizational skills.
    * High-level computer skills, especially for graphic and web design or good potential to learn.
    * Understanding of photography and ability to take photographs with impact would be an advantage.
     
    Two writing samples (not longer than two paragraphs each).

    Accountant 

    Overall Responsibilities
    The Accountant is responsible for assisting the Finance Manager with safeguarding the assets (financial and physical) of MSH and ultimately the US Government or other donors against fraud, loss or misuse. The Accountant is responsible for ensuring that any money expended in the field is done in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, MSH policy and any cost principles imposed by the donor agency. The Accountant is aware of, and adheres to MSH’s procurement integrity standards in all activities. 
     
    Qualifications 
    * University Degree in Accounting or equivalent certification from a Business Technical School
    * Experience as an Accountant or understanding of key aspects of accounting, experience with US government projects will be helpful.
    * Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially spreadsheet or comparable software.
    * Ability to use basic accounting software (i.e. QuickBooks)
    * Demonstrate good judgment and sound financial “common sense”
    * Ability to create and monitor budgets. Understanding of the basic tenets of Cash Control, Asset Management and Bank Reconciliation
    * Understands the principles of adequate documentation and of audit and performance necessary to ensure audit compliance
    * Willingness to travel (30%) within Nigeria Regularly as required
    * Written and Verbal proficiency in English including business terminology
