    Tax Consultant

    INTERSOS has been present in Nigeria since the beginning of 2016 and has launched an intervention in the state of Borno to provide emergency housing, ensure food security to thousands of displaced families and
    support the fight against malnutrition, particularly among children. The ongoing humanitarian crisis in Nigeria has its epicenter in the states of Yobe, Adamaua and Borno. Of the nearly 3 million displaced in these areas,
    80% are in the state of Borno. Almost three years of occupation by the armed group Boko Haram and the subsequent military operation launched in January 2016 by the Nigerian army to bring these states under
    government control, have produced a massive displacement of fleeing people and a devastating impact on the population. For nearly three years, in the areas under the control of Boko Haram, the population has had no access to any services, particularly medical care, medical supplies, and social and educational services. The instability of the area and the ongoing attacks by armed groups have blocked food production and crops,
    emptying markets and leaving 4.6 million people without any food security. Malnutrition among women and children has reached extreme levels, especially among displaced persons, who fled into the forests and later
    found their homes and businesses destroyed. Much of the displaced population rely on the humanitarian aid to survive.
    In Borno state, INTERSOS is working in 8 LGA (Ngala, Damasak, Banki, Bama, Dikwa, Monguno, Baga,
    Magumeri) with around 7 project implemented by around 300 local staff. INTERSOS has his support office in
    Abuja and Coordination office in Maiduguri.

    Tasks and responsibilities
    The consultant will manage tax and pension of around 300 local staff; the report of annual financial
    statement of all projects.
    Specifically:

    1: PAY AS YOU EARN (PAYE) AND WITHHOLDING (WHT) TAXES FUNCTION
    The Consultant shall among others:

    • Review and recommend appropriate tax plan to adopt by the Organization
    • Provide guidance on applicable tax legislations to the Organization’s type of business
    • Assist in the computation of tax
    • Resolve tax disputes between Intersos Nigeria and any third party.
    • Coordinate tax returns under PAYE & WHT taxes and guide desk officers on filing of tax returns and deadlines
    • Provide additional work relating to any special request such as tax audit, special tax
    • assignments or to research tax issues and prepare simple tax guide where required from time to time.
    • The terms of any such additional work would be discussed and agreed upon by both parties before its commencement.

    2: EXTERNAL AUDIT SERVICE FUNCTION
    Independent Auditors to audit our records and provide a professional opinion to Intersos and file annual tax returns to the Federal Inland Revenue Service in compliance with Section 55(1)(a) of the
    Companies Income Tax Act, CAP. 60, LFN; 1990 (as amended) and obtain a tax clearance certificate for the Organization. Prepare and certify our annual financial statement.

    Requirement:

    • Certified chartered account by Nigeria Government
    • Have at least two years’ experience in handling INGO’s personnel taxes & pensions and annual financial Statement
