    Overview 

    A suite of banking solutions that are simple, smart and secure. Retail Banking is what most people think of when they hear the word "banking". It essentially covers all the products and services that the Bank provides to make day to day lives easier for everyone, be it:

    • Payments - making it easier for online or direct purchases,
    • Accounts and Deposit Offering – providing you simple, smarter and secure options to save and/or grow your money
    • Mortgages and Investments – offering a range of simple solutions for your residential and financial needs. 

    At Standard Chartered, Retail Banking serves over 9 million affluent and emerging affluent clients and small businesses in many of the world’s fastest growing cities across Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Our focus is on serving the banking needs of these Priority, Business and Personal Clients with market-leading digital capabilities and best-in class products and services as we make banking simple, smarter and secure. 

    Your training 

    Explore the different teams. Get to learn and build your knowledge of what really drives our Retail business. 

    As a Retail Banking International Graduate, you will enjoy the broadest possible exposure to our key businesses. This could mean working within our digital team to determine the future client experience or within our customer experience area looking at what drives client satisfaction. You could work within our product and services teams to understand and develop new client propositions or even within our risk and controls management areas. 

    You will be fully supported to fulfill your potential, follow your passions with our specialist teams where you can:

    • Manage and contribute to a revenue generating business
    • Lead client campaign and profitability analysis
    • Manage key strategic projects that impact different channels, segments and regions
    • Contribute to the design and development of global client acquisition programmes
    • Contribute to the development of Client Value Propositions
    • Initiate, coordinate, monitor and deliver projects
    • Develop, deploy and measure new marketing campaigns

    Whichever areas you have the opportunity to work within our Retail Bank, you’ll learn the importance of actively working together across the Bank to make things happen on projects and programmes, right from the start.

    What you’ll do over 18 months 

    • 4 week International induction – This comprises of classroom sessions, case studies, and tailored technical training split by business stream. 
    • 11 month training rotations – After induction, you will spend eleven months in Retail Banking where you’ll learn how to engage with clients. You’ll broaden your experience with rotations into areas including Risk, Product/Segments, Distribution/Front Line, and lastly Digital. 
    • 6 month Business rotation – Your final rotation will last six months and help you understand our products in detail. It’s your chance to find the team you fit into best, and begin your Standard Chartered career.

    You must have an undergraduate degree, we want and encourage applications from candidates from all degree disciplines. And as English is our business language, it needs to be at least one of those you speak fluently.     2019 - International Graduate Programme - Global Banking

    Overview

    Global Banking supports clients financial needs across more than 60 markets, providing solutions to over 5,3000 clients in some of the world’s fastest-growing economies and most active trade corridors. Our clients include large corporations, governments, banks and investors headquartered, operating or investing in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Our strong and deep local presence across these markets enables us to facilitate trade, capital and investment flows in and for our footprint, including across China’s Belt and Road initiative.

    Our Global Banking team provides client coverage through global Industries group, financial & strategic investors group, banks and broker dealers, global subsidiaries, investors and insurance, commercial real estate focused Relationship Managers.

    We collaborate increasingly with other segments: introducing Commercial Banking services to our clients’ ecosystems – their networks of buyers, suppliers, customers and service providers – and offering our clients employee banking services through Retail Banking.

    Your training

    The programme provides a comprehensive grounding in corporate and commercial banking, and will see you working directly with a diverse range of business and corporate customers alongside our Corporate/Financial Institutions Bankers. You can explore how your skills can adapt to different areas of our business while developing new skills to help kick-start your career in the Global Banking. Here are some projects you could be involved in:

    • Generate creative ideas on customer acquisition and products/ services
    • Work directly with new clients to learn, analyse and identify opportunities to advance their business, developing a deep understanding of our customers’ needs, and expertise in the products we offer
    • Map, mine and implement cross sell opportunities to expand existing client relationships
    • Partner with Relationship Managers to structure client transactions, acquiring insight into product development, deal execution and digital banking
    • Prepare customer credit proposals

    Your career progression

    At the end of your 18-month programme, you’ll join a role within Global Banking. These could be in areas such as:

    • Credit Analysis
    • Relationship Management

    What you’ll do over 18 months

    Overview

    Our Financial Markets team has expertise combined with deep local market knowledge to deliver a variety of risk management, financing and investment solutions to our clients. We have capabilities across origination, structuring, sales, trading and research. Offering a full suite of fixed income, currencies, commodities, equities, capital markets and loan syndication solutions.

    Your training

    As an International Graduate in the Financial Markets, you will be focused in your chosen business stream, while training and business rotations into connected streams will give real context to your role. You will gain hands-on experience across four rotations, where you are an integral part of a team to help deliver solutions for our customers. Here are some projects you could be involved in:

    • Analyse and create pitchbooks, confirming client deals and coordinating client events as part of our Sales teams
    • Price, test, develop and roll-out new products as part of our Structuring teams
    • Provide insights on balance sheet movements, report changes in liquidity profiles and track Trading desk funding profiles as part of our ALM teams
    • Support senior desk members executing and inputting hedging trades and provide pricing to sales desks as part of our Trading Teams

    Your career progression

     At the end of your 18-month programme, you’ll join a role within Financial Markets. This could be in areas such as:

    • Trading
    • Sales

    In partnership with asset management firms and insurance companies, Wealth Management team provides a range of products and solutions to help our clients grow and protect their wealth. Our clients span the full spectrum, from individuals to small business and corporate clients. We have teams of Investments Advisors, Insurance Specialists and Treasury Specialists who interact with clients, and Relationship Managers who provide expert insights on global markets and specialist advice.

    Your training

     We help customers across our footprint with the management of their day-to-day finances and savings. You will learn about our product offerings, how we position them in the market and the processes and strategies behind them.  Your experiences will cover different segments, products and channels, through which we connect with our customers. Here are some experiences you could look forward to

    • Monitor the global markets for patterns and insights to produce market reports for clients
    • Shape the development and the way we present our wealth management products and services to clients
    • Develop client behaviour analytics and formulate plans for new ways of engaging clients 

    Your career progression 

    At the end of your 18-month programme, you’ll join a role in Wealth Management. These could be in areas such as:

    • Bancassurance
    • Investment Advisory
    • Credit Structuring
    • Business and Segment Management 

    What you’ll do over 18 months 

    • 4 week International induction – This comprises of classroom sessions, case studies, and tailored technical training split by business stream.
    • 11 month training rotations – You will spend eight months in your core business area, where you’ll broaden your experience by rotating through Risk, Product, Distribution/Front Line and Digital.
