    Dam Safety Specialist Engineer

    Details:

    The specialist shall be basically a civil engineer or Geotechnical Engineer with specialization on embankment dams. He should have professional experience preferably not less than 20 years in building dams, reservoirs and other related structures in developing countries and must be very competent in analysing the dam safety. He should be capable of critically assessing the condition of critical instrumentation equipment, capable of assessing the viability of repairs and or replacement of deep pneumatic piezometers in dam foundation, proposing specifications and methods of equipment replacement and installation and preparing report of his finding and recommendation.

    A good knowledge and experience in design, maintenance and repairs of all kinds of dam’s safety instrumentation is required

    The specific task includes, but not limited to:

    • Review existing studies / documents and other resources available.
    • Coordinate with Geotechnical engineer and hydro geologist and conduct necessary investigation and assess present condition of the dam and related structures.
    • Conduct necessary investigations to select the borrow area for the fill and examine the materials in the existing bund.
    • Assess the present condition of the bund and any downstream seepage through the fill.
    • Carryout or Guide the Geotechnical Engineer to do the stability analysis computation.
    • Based on the findings of the stability analysis computations develop the proposals for strengthening the embankment, carry out relevant designs.
    • Examine the stability of the present dam section and design the new dam section.
    • Assist Hydrologist / Hydraulic Modeler to investigate possible causes for damages occurring to the stilling basing including its adequacy or otherwise of its energy dissipation capability.
    • Identify technical modes of construction.
    • Carry out stress analysis to confirm the stability of the structures and its foundation under all conditions of loading.
    • Develop proposals to form a roadway in the downstream of the embankment with a bridge across the spillway.
    • Draft required specification including fabrication of radial gates with hoisting arrangements, identify indicators for quality monitoring.

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (Masters in Civil a plus) with Geotechnical emphasis.
    • At least 20 years cognate experince in dam engineering and construction
    • COREN required
    • Excellent time management and organizational skills required.
    • Must have strong oral/written communication skills and ability to work well in teams.
    • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required
    • Must be proficient in MS Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with technical analysis software, MS
    • Strong fundamental knowledge of geologic and/or geotechnical engineering principles, soil and rock mechanics, earthquake engineering, and engineering design. Working knowledge of numeric modeling and finite element analysis, seismic hazard assessments, seismic analysis and designs and proficiency with related geotechnical computer applications a plus.
    • Willingness to travel on temporary assignments as needed.

    Hydrologist/Hydraulic Engineer

    Details:

    The specialist shall be an experienced hydraulic engineer/hydrologist specializing in operational hydrologist/hydraulic design of national and international repute. He should have professional experience preferably not less than 20 years in processing and reviewing of raw hydrometric data, analysis of extreme rainfall and river flow statistic, preparation of river flow hydrograph and flow-duration curves for use in deriving reservoir rule curves, rainfall runoff simulation of river flow under condition of inadequate flow for determination of low frequency inflow hydrograph for dam’s reservoir. Reservoir operational modelling to determine extreme spillway discharges, dam break modelling as well as review of hydraulic design such as spillway, stilling basins, outlet works etc.

    The Primary Responsibilities for This Role Will Include

    • Providing state-of-the-art hydrologic/ hydraulic model and designs in our projects
    • Contributing towards developing and managing hydrology investigation programs, review of, or preparation of hydrological baseline reports, conveyance, storage, and erosion structures design, preparation of hydrological/hydraulic models and design reports and plans and specifications
    • Organizing, drafting and coordinating production of assigned sections of various reports to ensure technical consistency and inclusion of appropriate documentation
    • Coordinating with clients, regulatory agencies, and subcontractors. Performing project administration including writing reports, gathering information, drafting proposals, drafting correspondence, tracking project costs, and completing progress reports to ensure quality and profitability

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors of Science degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in surface water/hydraulics/hydrology or Water Resources engineering
    • 20 years of professional experience in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and design, sediment transport (or related surface water engineering)
    • Industry hydrologic/hydraulic modelling experience required (HEC Models) including experience in steady state and unsteady analyses and sediment transport
    • Hands-on advance modelling strongly preferred (i.e CFD applied to Hydraulic Engineering and 2D Modelling)
    • Demonstrated strong organizational skills, multitasking ability, and excellent computer skills (programming languages, numerical analysis, and CAD and GIS applications, and office productivity software)
    • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, report preparation

    Hydro Eletro-Mechanical Engineer

    Details:

    The highly experienced Electro-Mechanical engineer with 20 years cognate experience in dam development and rehabilitation including design, installation, operation and maintenance repairs /refurbishment and replacement of dam hydro Electro mechanical equipment, appurtenances (gates, Valves, lifting equipment, pipe systems. Etc) and associated mechanical-electrical control systems. Ideal candidate must be able to assess condition of equipment, propose specification and methods of equipment replacement and prepare report on his findings and recommendations.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Independently Performs

    • Hydraulic turbine selections, cost estimating, equipment layout and coordination with other engineering disciplines during preliminary feasibility studies and design
    • Detailed analyses and designs as well as construction services related to the mechanical equipment hydroelectric power plants
    • Witness equipment inspections and tests
    • Witness hydraulic turbine scale model tests and review model test reports
    • Assess condition of equipment (crawl thru inspection) at site
    • Preparation of procurement and construction specifications
    • Evaluation of bids and contract negotiations
    • Review of supplier design submittals
    • Field activities including: providing technical assistance during equipment
    • installations, site inspections, equipment testing and commissioning, and other site work as needed
    • Develop scope of work description and cost estimates for mechanical engineering tasks as it applies to change orders and proposals
    • Maintains an internal network of peers and subject matter experts
    • Establishes and maintains positive client relationships
    • Applicant shall work in a manner to ensure personal safety and that of fellow employees by following company health and safety guidelines and policies
    • Domestic or International site based travel may be required (<20%)

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (Civil/Structural). (Additional Business degree a plus)
    • 20 years' of progressive experience in design and implementation of solutions in mechanical engineering on water resources and/or Hydroelectric Power projects
    • Must have strong vendors/clients contacts and relationships
    • Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment
    • Must demonstrate good written and oral communication skills in English (fluent in a 2nd language a plus)
    • Must demonstrate the ability to convey project technical information to project managers, clients and peers
    • Must demonstrate organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and take direction
    • Must demonstrate the ability to provide direction to lower level engineers and ensure the quality of deliverables
    • Basic computer knowledge is required including "Microsoft Office"
    • Must have an advanced knowledge of Water Resources or Hydroelectric Power with specific emphasis on any of the following:
      • Turbines and/or generators
      • Controllers
      • Oil, water and air systems
      • Fire protection systems
      • Energy dissipation devices
      • Spherical valves and butterfly valves
      • Bulkheads, gates, hoists, trash racks, intake structures, and cranes

    Must Have Previous Experience With

    • Hydroelectric Power Plants
    • Asset Management
    • Condition assessment and rehabilitation of existing equipment and systems
    • Risk assessment, ranking of alternative and life cycle cost of mechanical equipment
    • Support of planning studies and reports
    • Preparing for and making client presentations
    • Proposal preparation
    • Advanced knowledge of calculations for mechanical energy requirements and piping losses in water conveyance systems

    Preferred  Qualifications

    • Advanced degree in mechanical engineering or related field is preferred
    • PMI/PMP is a plus
    • Intermediate/advanced level of experience in Finite Element Analysis and or
    • Computational Fluid Dynamics is a plus
    • CADD (Computer-Aided Design and Drafting) experience preferred and Micro
    • Station or AutoCAD experience is a plus
    • Ability to speak a foreign language is a plus (must be fluent in English)
    • At least 20 years cognate experience in dam engineering and construction.

    Hydro Dam Team Lead

    Details:
    The highly experienced Civil engineer or water resources engineer with strong emphasis on structures and wind impact dynamics. Not less than 20-25 years’ experience in water resource management with practical hands on experience in planning, investigation, design, construction and inspection of water management project. He/she must possess demonstrated team management abilities and experience in leading teams of international and national professional in similar assignments, preferably for world bank or other multilateral lending agency supported projects in developing countries.

    Primary Responsibilities
    SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER from a heavy background with extensive hydropower plant and dam construction experience

    Key responsibilities will include:

    • All aspects of the execution and successful completion of the project.
    • Management of the day-to-day operational aspects of the Hydro Electric Project construction team and the scope of work.
    • Timely management of the construction delivery schedule manages the project budget, minimize exposure and risk on the project.
    • Solid understanding of contractual issues as well as on site legal issues and health & safety
    • Ensure alignment; prioritization; resource allocation and collaboration on common problems and solutions across the entire team
    • Ability to engage with, manage and motivate staff from various backgrounds and nationalities.
    • Identify and assign project roles, responsibilities and reporting relationships, develop work plans, ensure adequate human resource levels exist and develop a productive team environment;

    Key Criteria

    To be considered for the role, applicants would need to demonstrate the following experience and skills:

    • Formal Civil/Geotechnical Engineering/Water Resources Engineering qualifications
    • 25 years’ experience delivering dam construction projects within the resource sector
    • Must come from a EPC/Contractor background
    • Broad range of experience in planning, design and construction phase services
    • Ability to build relationships and communicate at all levels
    • Work effectively under tight deadlines and pressure
    • Project management experience with a strong commercial acumen.
    • Strong leadership and managerial skills
    • Well-developed strategic and commercial acumen
    • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
