    Risk Education Facilitators

    The position
    The Risk Education Facilitator is mainly responsible for the direct operational implementation of Risk education activities in the DRC/DDG areas of operation. The Risk Education Facilitator delivers daily risk education sessions to IDPs, adults and children, in host communities and IDP camps on the risks associated with mines/Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) as part of efforts to ensure the safe return of IDPs and to reduce the risk of deaths/injuries associated with mines/ERW. The Risk Education Facilitator also supports Risk Education Supervisors and Training Advisor in the development of new educational materials for both adults and children and for the continuous improvement of training methods. The position is based in Maiduguri, and require regular travels to other LGAs in Borno (Bama, Ngala, Monguno, Dikwa).

    Key Requirements

    Essentials

    • Knowledge of local communities and languages in the proposed areas of work (Maiduguri, Bama, Dikwa, Monguno, and Ngala)
    • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel)
    • Educational and/or training skills
    • Experience in facilitation with children
    • Good spoken and written English

    Desirables

    • Artistic capability (e.g. singing, dancing, drama, graphic design) are an advantage.
    • Experience in addressing different groups of people an advantage
    • Able to take initiative
    • Well organized

    Conditions

    • Availability: From 21 August 2017
    • Salary and conditions: In accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment;

    Safety Officer

    The position 

    The role of the Safety Officer (SO) is focused on the continuous implementation of safety strategies and protocols in order to ensure a high level of safety and wellbeing for all DRC/DDG staff based in Field location.  The SO will maintain a high level of contextual awareness of his/her operating area and strong coordination with Program and Program support teams at the field level.  He/ She will promote a strong Safety culture at their Base office(s) through continuous trainings and collaborative safety assessments with all field based staff.  The SO will serve as the Safety unit representative at Field level and also serve, when required as the Safety unit representative on the Field Crisis Management Team. The SO will report directly to the Head of Base and will technically report to the Safety Advisor, and will be an integral part of the Safety Unit.

    Key Requirements 

    Essentials 

    • Bachelor's Degree in a field related to humanitarian work or risk management 
    • 3 years of demonstrative experience in INGO/NGO with at least 1 year of field safety management experience included. 
    • Full proficiency in written and spoken English, and local language e.g Hausa, Fulani etc. 
    • Working experience in MS Office 2013 package including hands-on experience/skills & MS Excel Power Point, Word and Outlook. 
    • Excellent organizational skills, self-motivated, proactive and able to accomplish set deadlines. 

    Desirables 

    • Knowledge of local languages. 
    • Experience in preparing reports. 
    • Strong assessment, evaluation, analysis and strategic planning skills 
    • Experience in developing safety related technical tools guidelines and systems 
    • Willing to meet short deadlines with minimum supervision. 
    • Willing to travel within DRC offices within Nigeria.

    Emergency RRM/NFI Officer

    Coordinates and assists in the assessments for and the implementation of emergency response activities comprised of non-food distribution, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and shelter; in particular Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) activities

    Key Requirements

    Essentials

    • Working experience in a humanitarian/recovery context within an Emergency program
    • Experience in complex emergencies
    • Strong understanding of protection principles and likely protection concerns arising in the Nigerian context as well as conflict sensitivity
    • Strong ability to work in a variety of environments and in remote locations without the usual communication or amenities.
    • Knowledge of the context in rural Nigeria

    Desirables

    • Work experience with international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and/or displaced population is a very strong asset.
    • Experience from needs assessments, registration, verification and distribution in emergency relief operations is a strong advantage
