    Media Manager

    Role Purpose

    • The post-holder will manage Save the Children’s media work in Nigeria, harnessing the power of national and international media to help us to achieve our advocacy, programmatic and fundraising goals. Equally important will be raising awareness of humanitarian crises affecting children.
    • The Media Manager will report to the Advocacy and Campaign Director; liaise with the Country Director Regional Media Manager for West and Central Africa, the Humanitarian Communications Coordinator and the Humanitarian Director.
    • The primary task, carried-out under the guidance of the Advocacy and Campaigns Director, will be to develop a new national media strategy with a focus on our programmatic, campaign and humanitarian work.
    • The day-to-day roles of the Media Manager will include handling media enquiries, drafting comments and media releases, developing and maintaining a network of key media contacts, hosting media visits to field programmes and acting as a focal point for media requests from Save the Children offices around the world.
    • The post-holder will support the function of risk mitigation, in cooperation with senior management and advocacy colleagues, and proactively spot opportunities for brand development.

    Key Areas of Accountability

    • Develop and implement a new media strategy aligned to Save the Children’s national, regional and global advocacy, campaign and humanitarian priorities.
    • Act as a focal point for media requests from Save the Children member organisations around the world, working closely with the Regional Media Manager for West and Central Africa and Save the Children International’s Global Media Unit.
    • Work closely with the heads of thematic areas to develop key messages and promote programmatic goals in the media.
    • Draft newsworthy media releases aligned to advocacy, campaigns and humanitarian priorities, and reactive statements as necessary.
    • Develop core materials including Q&A, key messages, case studies, blogs, and talking points.
    • Build and maintain relationships with key national and international journalists and media outlets.
    • Arrange media briefings and act as a spokesperson when required.
    • Coach and brief colleagues ahead of media interviews and build the communications capacity of staff in the Country Office for effective media engagement.
    • Undertake effective media monitoring for the Country Office and maintain an up to date media database.
    • Stay up to date on developments on media tools and trends, and train colleagues as needed.
    • Work internally with social media, humanitarian communications and programmatic teams to ensure consistent messaging.
    • Work to ensure maximum visibility of the Every Last Child Campaign in the media in line with campaign objectives.
    • Facilitate national and international media visits showcasing issues relevant to advocacy, campaigns and humanitarian priorities, including to the North East when appropriate.
    • Assist in the preparation of crisis communications plans, including risk mitigation strategies around sensitive issues affecting children, and recognise red lines for messaging.
    • Plan, commission and carry out the collection of multimedia content for Save the Children media teams around the world as well as national and international media outlets.
    • Ensure proper sign off of all media materials by the Country Director, and the Global / Regional Media Unit where appropriate.

    Qualifications & Experience
    Essential:

    • Minimum three years of experience working as a media specialist for an international organisation.
    • University qualification in Journalism, Public Relations or a related field.
    • Experience in using media as a tool for advocacy, campaign and/or humanitarian needs.
    • An excellent understanding of the Nigerian media environment and a first-rate network of media contacts in Nigeria.
    • Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing impactful media strategies.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate complex issues in a compelling way for a variety of audiences.
    • Ability to network and build relationships, as well as identify key influencers and media targets.
    • An innate ‘news’ sense and a proven ability to produce crisp, punchy media copy to tight deadlines.
    • Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Word, power point and pdf.

    The Media Manager is also expected to:

    • Have extensive understanding of global communications, media relations and new media.
    • Have a professional understanding of commissioning and gathering multimedia content such as film, and photography.
    • Show enthusiasm for and commitment to Save the Children’s values and mission.
    • Have the capacity to work in a multi-cultural environment.

    Desirable:

    • Experience of working with international media outlets and / or working as a journalist would be a considerable advantage.
    • Fluent and nuanced written and verbal skills in local languages, particularly Hausa.
    • A strong understanding of NGO policy/ advocacy work in the context of development, and considerable experience working through the media on advocacy and campaigns.

    Logistics Officer

    Introduction
    Save the Children is an International Organization that has been working for the rights of Children globally for over 90 years. Save the Children has been working in Nigeria since 2001 and has presence in 20 states. The Country Office is located in Abuja and Field Offices in Bauchi, Borno, Cross Rivers, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Lagos and Zamfara states. Addtionally SCI has significant presence in Benue, Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu, Kano, Kogi, Kwara, Plateau, Sokoto and Yobe states. SCI thematic focal areas are Nutrition, Health, Child Protection, Food Security & Livelihoods, Education and WASH, Save the Children is under agreement with the Federal Government of Nigeria dated 10th October 2012.

    Scope of Role

    • To manage and support logistics, including the office vehicle [fleet], assets, properties and an efficient procurement system to ensure transparency and accountability for SCI Nigeria.

    Role Purpose
    Communications:

    • Manage travel arrangements, including transport and hotel bookings.
    • Liaise with the HR organization unit to ensure coordination of functions when official visitors are expected

    Transport and Fleet Management:

    • Manage drivers’ team.
    • Manage, maintain and repair vehicles.
    • Responsible for administering litigations and traffic offenses.
    • Update the vehicle cost schedule and produce regular reports.
    • Monitor markets on vehicle rentals as per SCI security and safety standards.

    TIM and Asset & Facility Management:

    • Enter all new items purchased in SCI TIM software and ensure reconciling with Assets register.
    • Manage and maintain Asset and Inventory list for SC Nigeria leased property.  Ensure assets are numbered correctly.
    • Ensure good condition of assets, and maintain Asset Condition reports.
    • Ensure leased properties are in good habitable conditions.  Overseeing repairs on rented premises, liaising with the caretaker and landlord where necessary.
    • Establish and maintain a list of contact details for preferred service providers including carpenters, electricians, plumbers, generator servicers and builders and make this list available to staff.

    Procurement and Supply:

    • Respond efficiently and quickly to purchase requisitions, and follow up and maintain record of supplies.  Ensure that the items bought match the request, are of good quality, reliable, appropriate and at a reasonable price.
    • Record all incoming goods, their dispatch and timely delivery to projects. Ensure complete documentation of procurement actions consistent with SC Nigeria policy is kept on file.
    • Ensure proper documentation that allows quick and efficient release of goods from the warehouse/s.
    • Maintain the procurement file and ensure that it is up to date with all documentation and information relating to any procurement under taken.
    • Produce monthly logistics site report, vehicle and generator cost performance report.

    Other activities:

    • Monitor generator maintenance/repairs and ensure at any given time, the tracker is up to date.
    • Ensure monthly reports shared with AOM and head of Logistics and as well produce monthly Logistics KPIs.
    • To train the drivers, other logistics staff on all SCI procurement processes, assets management, transport systems.
    • Supervise and ensure all Logistics protocols are followed within the field office and LGAs.

    Qualifications and Experience
    Essential:

    • Level of Education - B.Sc/HND in any related discipline
    • Good experience in: purchasing, clearing and forwarding, Warehousing, vehicle management, administration.
    • Diplomacy, tact and negotiating skills.
    • Team-working skills, Flexibility under pressure and in response to changing needs.
    • Attention to detail and excellent numeracy
    • Practical experience in working HF and VHF radios.
    • Commitment to SCI child safeguarding policies, equal opportunity, gender policies and humanitarian principles
    • Knowledge of the Zamfara state terrain and specifically the WINNN/CDGP/CEFM programme

    Desirable

    • Experience in Logistics Management.
    • Logistics training or qualification an added advantage
    • Basic working knowledge of local language

    Working Conditions

    • Ability and willingness to travel to projects and stay in basic conditions when necessary.

    Field Assistant (Volunteer)

    Introduction

    • Save the Children International is a 'dual mandate' organisation and as such equal priority will be given to both humanitarian and development work.
    • This is the only way we will be able to ensure that some of the fundamental rights that we believe children have, such as survival, safety and constant access to protection and education can be guaranteed.
    • As part of a commitment to work with children through humanitarian interventions Save the Children will support programmes in both sudden onset and chronic emergency situations.

    Main Responsibilities
    Program Support (typically will be at field level):

    Job Purpose

    • Conduct community sensitization and mobilization with regards to FFP voucher program.
    • Ensure community leaders are briefed about the program and expectation.
    • Work with community leaders to establish communities in collaboration with IDP/Community leadership.
    • Sensitization of leadership structures (community committees) formed on program objective, beneficiary targeting, and selection and eligibility criteria.
    • To Work alongside community leaders and committees to identify beneficiaries, who will be registered and enrolled on the program using structured form on kobo.
    • Conduct baseline survey for selected beneficiaries using structured questionnaire on kobo platform.
    • Ensure community leaders and formed committees are sensitized on voucher system and entitlement from the program.
    • Sensitize selected vendor on the program specially the E-voucher system and involvement in the program.
    • Ensure both the beneficiaries and vendors are assisted during voucher transfer transactions.
    • Conduct monthly market monitoring across markets in Maiduguri from traders both program and non-program vendors.
    • Conduct post distribution monitoring from sample of beneficiaries after voucher transfer.
    • Any other duties that may be duties assigned related to implementation of FFP program in Maiduguri.
