    Community Liaison Officer

    Details:
    Based in Maidugiri with frequent travel within the Borno state and travel to Abuja when required.

    The Community Liaison Officer (CLO) plays an integral role in MAG operations. The CLO is responsible for gathering data on the impact and contamination of UXO and socio-economic data of affected communities. The CLO will liaise closely with communities ensuring community/partner participation in the prioritization of Mine Risk Education activities. The CLO is a field based position.

    2. RELATIONSHIP:

    Reports to: Community Liaison Team Leader

    3. DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Liaise with communities, traditional leaders, local authorities and other NGO’s to gather information using interviews, meetings, community mapping and other participatory activities.
    • Deliver Mine Risk Education (MRE) to targeted groups ensuring that all participants have a good understanding of risks and mitigation strategies.
    • Deliver training and provide on-going support to key community Focal Points to enable them to implement appropriate MRE activities.
    • Contribute ideas to improve the delivery of safety messages to the communities in order to achieve the aim of behaviour change.
    • Conduct needs and impact assessments as directed by the Community Liaison Team Leader or CLM.
    • Conduct Non-Technical Survey and record confirmed/suspected hazardous areas as reported by the community.
    • Take due care and responsibility for all equipment issued by MAG.

    Reporting

    • Report CL related work/issue to CL TL as required
    • Report the CL activities on a daily basis.

    Qualifications, Experience and Attributes

    • Diploma in Sociology, Education or any other related area.
    • Previous experience of carrying out community-based education activities or similar in North East Nigeria.
    • Good knowledge and understanding of local communities.
    • Ability to record information accurately and clearly.
    • Ability and willingness to travel.
    • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to build effective relationships with a range of people.
    • Hausa, Kanuri and English language skills

    Community Liaison Team Leader

    Details:

    Based in Maidugiri with frequent travel within the Borno state and travel to Abuja when required.

    The CL TL will provide management and support to Community Liaison activities across Borno State.  The CL TL will provide a consistent approach to CL that is in conformance with MAG Nigeria SOPs and guidelines, MAG global policies and in compliance with international standards.  The CL TL shall also ensure that the reporting and management structures are reviewed on an ongoing basis to ensure maximum effectiveness and programme consistency. The CL TL will work closely with the CL Manager and CLOs to ensure that CL activities are of a high standard, innovative and well integrated within all MAG operations.

    Reports to: Community Liaison Manager

    3. DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide support and advice to the CLM regarding current and future CL activities and tasks for Borno State.
    • Provides guidance to CL teams through the management of the CLM.
    • Support implementation of new program activities and development of CL in new program areas.
    • Support the implementation and review of QA/QC procedures for CL
    • Conduct regular M&E of CL activities and ensure that recommendations from monitoring visits are acted upon
    • Provides support to MAG’s Community Focal Points
    • Deliver relevant CL training to new CL staff
    • Provide support to and participate in the recruitment of new CL staff
    • Support the planning, collection and sharing of case studies
    • Support MAG during joint assessments with NGOs that require CL input/expertise
    • Support design and implementation of MRE activities as required
    • Communicate and coordinate with MAG CLM regarding CL/MRE issues
    • Ensure information/requests circulated from the CLM are responded to and/or circulated to the relevant CL staff. 

    Reporting

      • Report CL related work/issue to CLM as required

    • Report the CL activities on a daily basis.

    Qualifications, Experience and Attributes

    • University Degree in the field of Sociology, Education or any other retaled area
    • of Experience in overseeing and managing field based staff and supporting work planning processes
    • Experience of data gathering, management and analysis including the development of data gathering mechanisms and tools
    • Experience of working with rural communities from a variety of different ethnic groups. 
    • Good communication and team work skills
    • Computer literacy
    • Hausa, Kanuri and English language skills.
