PURPOSE OF THE TOR
The purpose of this TOR is to carry out a Baseline Assessment of the knowledge, attitudes and Practices of the communities where MDM intervenes, with specific focus on Health and Hygiene behaviors, IYCF, SRH, GBV, and Mental Health.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE 
To conduct the baseline assessment for MDM interventions, providing indicator baselines as well as specific recommendations to target health education activities and design interventions to suit the cultural context and specifities

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

• To collect baseline data against all project indicators
• To understand knowledge around specific aspects of health and hygiene to better target behavior change interventions
• To map demographics of the target population

METHODOLOGY
Using these Terms of Reference, the intending consultant will prepare a draft proposal on how they intend to conduct the survey. The consultant is expected to propose and design a suitable methodology for gathering information and delivering results, using electronic data collection and quantitative data.

Main Tasks of the consultant

• Prepare a proposal for the methodology for the survey
• Develop the survey tool in an electronic platform
• Conduct testing of the tool
• Train the team of enumerators on the use of the tool and general best practice for conducting KAP surveys           
• Conduct KAP survey-lead the field teams
• Undertake consultations with key stakeholders and conduct field data collection;
• Process and analyses the data, write and submit a draft report of the survey;
• Present the draft report of the findings in a stakeholder forum for comments and feedback
• Revise and submit a final copy of the survey report including recommendations to MDM.

DELIVERABLES

Deliverables under this consultancy will include the following:

• A detailed methodology document showing how the consultant seeks to undertake the study. The report will include a clear methodology and data collection tools, analysis reporting details and a detailed work plan. This will be presented 4 days after the signing of the contract
• A final report 7 days after completion of the field activities. The final report shall be submitted as scheduled to the Programme coordinators, technical advisor, in both electronic versions, MS Word and MS Excel, and 3 printed hard copies.

DURATION AND TIME

The entire assignment including preparation of the study tools and protocols, recruitment and training of data collectors, field work, analysis of data and report writing is estimated to last 30 calendar days. The exercise is expected to commence On 20th March

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

• This assignment requires a high level of skill, patience and motivation to accomplish within the stipulated time frame. The consultant will be required to devise appropriate strategies to generate as much information as required within
• the limited time. In addition, the consultant should be capable of working in difficult environment where security situation is unpredictable and with limited basic facilities and amenities.

Education and background required:

• Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition, public health, Social Statistics or related fields. Postgraduate Studies in Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methodology is an added advantage.
• Minimum of 5 years KAP survey experience , Proven publications record: Previous publication record on Knowledge Attitude and Practices survey is an advantage.
• Must be computer literate with unquestionable competence in analytical packages such as excel, SPSS, CSPro, STATA or SAS
• Skills and Abilities: Proven ability to organize and supervise a survey team in a cross-cultural setting.
• Excellent English report writing and communication skills, Good training/facilitation skills.
• Mastery of the local language (Hausa) is desirable but not essential

The consultant will report to the Medical Coordinator at the field and national level
