    Online Content Writer

    Location: Nationwide

    Job Description

    • We are currently looking for Contract-based (Staff) and Freelance sports writers to write football match previews, analysis, and recaps for an online sports news website.
    • We cover Domestic, European and World Football and are looking for sports reporters who are passionate and can bring fresh insight on the beautiful game.
    • We don’t only want to deliver sports news, but we also want to offer an alternative and thoughtful view on events around football.
    • We are looking for creative and quality writers who have an interesting way of story telling which captures and engages online readers.
    • Writers will be expected to follow assigned matches/topics closely while writing recaps and employ sound news judgement when writing previews for upcoming games.
    • It is also expected that writers work to meet assigned deadlines.
    • Writers must be available during sports busiest times: evenings and weekends. Additionally, there must be a commitment to write on holidays.

    Requirements & Competencies

    • Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism
    • Prior experience in writing and editing sports content
    • Excellent command of the English language vocabulary, spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax
    • Ability to generate high value articles quickly and accurately
    • Understand how to use social media, read box scores and extract the most important information about games
    • Must be a team player and possess a positive attitude
    • Must show responsibility, reliability and professionalism towards work
    • Works effectively under pressure and maintains a positive attitude
    • Good command over Microsoft Office tools (MS word, Excel, PowerPoint etc)
    • Currently serving in NYSC or just recently completed the 1 year mandatory program
