    Food Technologist - P3

    Job Purpose

    • Lead the implementation of food safety and quality management and/or food product optimisation initiatives within a CO or support regional or global initiatives.
    • Job holders are responsible for partnering with the key supply chain functions to ensure an integrated supply chain approach to meeting the food assistance needs of beneficiaries.

    Key Accountabilities (not all-inclusive)

    • Establish and implement protocols and tools relating to food technology issues, such as food safety and quality and food product optimisation, ensuring alignment with WFP procurement and supply chain strategy, policies and plans.
    • Review and provide advice on the procedures for mitigating and documenting food quality and safety issues e.g. during food transit and storage in warehouses.
    • Establish and implement protocols and tools in country offices that enable rapid response to situations with food safety concerns.
    • Provide technical guidance and input to country offices in the design and implementation of medium scale and/or relatively straight forward food assistance programmes, ensuring compliance with WFP food and safety regulations.
    • Lead and motivate a small team of staff, providing coaching, training and guidance as required to ensure appropriate development and enable high performance.
    • Develop and deliver training modules to WFP staff and external stakeholders on the key areas of food technology, such as quality control, food processing, loss prevention and mitigation, to build local capacity in the processing and/or production of specialized nutritious foods.
    • Prepare accurate and timely reports that inform food risk assessment and management, and contribute to a WFP wide view of food technology activities, enabling informed decision making and consistency of information presented to stakeholders.
    • Build relationships and collaborate with counterparts in key supply chain functions to establish standard operation procedures, protocols and tools that maintain, monitor and verify food safety and quality along the WFP supply chain.
    • Build productive relationships and partnerships with counterparts in UN agencies, NGOs, governments and the private sector to enhance WFP capacity to respond effectively to levels of under nutrition.
    • Keep current on emerging developments and cutting edge research on the areas of food safety and quality and/or food product optimization in order to leverage the opportunities to incorporate industry best practices.
    • Act in an assigned emergency response capacity as required to meet emergency food assistance needs.

    Standard Minimum Qualifications

    • Education: Advanced university Degree in Food Technology, Health Sciences, Food Control, Nutrition or other related field, or First University degree with an additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.
    • Language: International Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or WFP’s working language, Portuguese.
    • National Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language and the duty station’s language, if different.

    Logistics Officer, P3 (Funds Management)

    Job Purpose

    • To lead field logistics operations or provide technical support in HQ, partnering with the key supply chain functions to ensure an integrated supply chain approach to meeting the food assistance needs of beneficiaries.

    Key Accountabilities (not all-inclusive)

    • Manage Landside Transport Storage and Handling (LTSH) cost planning efforts in the Country Office;
    • Review LTSH cost planning, budgeting and funds management requirements and processes and regularly report to Head of Supply Chain;
    • Contribute to development of Country Office supply chain network design and planning, specifically focusing on cost planning and management;
    • Jointly with the Head of Supply Chain monitor changes in the operational circumstances and delivery demands, analyze and take action, or recommend actions to be taken, to impact LTSH costs and/or funds status;
    • Perform, or prompt as appropriate, adjustment actions in LTSH costs planning and budgeting. Provide analytical support and recommendations for operational costs and funds utilization optimization. Advise on required actions necessary to improve Logistic/Supply Chain cost-efficiencies and effectiveness if/when appropriate/ required;
    • Ensure appropriate LTSH funds utilization, which includes review, verification and approval of LTSH matrix and validate against project budgets, procurement strategies, contract documentation and optimal transport rates making recommendations for changes as required.
    • Perform regular reconciliation of funds and expected Logistics/Supply Chain operational requirements and advise management on the usage of funds minimizing potential shortfalls or surpluses;
    • Monitor timely recording of commitments  in WINGS, Logistics services payment process; Ensure accurate LTSH funds tracking during project closure and Resource transfer;
    • Ensure delivery of regular and ad-hoc costs and funds utilisation reports, analysing operationally relevant trends;
    • Develop and enhance the Supply Chain /LTSH costs/funds/expenditure planning and tracking system in the Country Office, in addition to WINGS or other WFP standard systems in place. Ensure appropriate SOPs and internal controls are in place.
    • Ensure compliance with WFP Logistics and LTSH management policies, rules, regulations and procedures;
    • Ensure the quality of data from WFP supply chain sources for the purposes of audit support and compliance operational performance monitoring and evaluation.
    • Contribute to the preparation of project related Supply Chain/Logistics Plans and similar documents, funding proposals and fund status reports;
    • Participate in Local Project Review Committee including reviews related to Cooperating Partner Field Level Agreements;
    • Prepare cash forecast in line with logistics operational plan  to respond promptly to Logistics financial obligations;
    • Liaise with other units of the Country Office, Head of Supply Chain and the Country Director to ensure best use of LTSH funds and overall Project funds;
    • Maintain close contacts with other Supply Chain players ensuring that LTSH costs and funds utilization trends and management is in line with CO’s Supply Chain strategies and operational solutions;

    Logistics Officer P2 (Funds Management)

    Job Purpose

    • To contribute to daily planning and coordination of WFP logistics operations including monitoring of services provided by contracted external organizations to ensure cost-effective operations and that set objectives are achieved in full.

    Key Accountabilities (not all-inclusive)

    • Contribute towards the development of logistics plans and processes ensuring compliance with wider logistics policies and WFP standards.
    • Support or manage logistics projects or operational activities following standard processes and contributing, directly or indirectly, to the effective delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries.
    • Collect and analyse data through research and networking with colleagues to recommend actions to senior staff to improve performance of local logistics operations.
    • Conduct regular financial analysis and budget reviews, drawing out insights and recommending actions to senior staff to optimise use of available funds.
