    Programme Associate (VAM)

    Job Description

    • Under the supervision and guidance of the VAM Officer, the Programme Associate (VAM) will provide effective specialized support and technical analyses to policy and programme activities that effectively meet food assistance needs (e.g. support activities related to needs assessment and situation analyses, data gathering and analysis, etc).

    Finance Associate

    Job Description

    • Under the supervision and guidance of the Security Officer, the Security Associate will perform tasks related to the implementation and assessment of security measures and maintenance of equipment with a view towards providing updates and recommendations to facilitate informed decision-making and secure WFP staff, facilities and operations.

    Key Responsibilities (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority):

    • Review security threats and risks in detail and compile accurate reports on trends and situations that could adversely impact WFP operations, in order to ensure information is accurately collated and sent to senior security staff to support reporting and decision making.
    • Review security related information (e.g. security incidents and events, security support to daily activities, etc.) and use corporate or local information management tools to produce a range of analyses and in-depth reports, to ensure that information is readily available for relevant stakeholders.
    • Liaise and co-ordinate with local administration, security and law enforcement authorities, communities, UN/NGO security staff and other actors, to facilitate access for safe programme delivery and to mitigate potential risks against staff and other resources.
    • Plan and co-ordinate staff activities during field missions and perform security assessments within the area of responsibility to support safe and effective programme delivery.
    • Analyse security assessment reports following field missions and present detailed recommendations for risk mitigation to support security situation analysis and facilitate decision-making.
    • Assist in advising the Country Director on security risk management matters and safety issues in compliance with the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS).
    • Support the implementation of risk management mitigation measures, including Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS) to ensure compliance.
    • Support the maintenance and management of security equipment and make recommendations to strengthen technology capacity in line with business requirements.
    • Monitor and ensure that all access control procedures are effective and stringently followed by all staff and visitors, in order to maintain a safe and secure environment.
    • Maintain and develop recommendations for improving emergency and contingency planning documentation including physical preparations and procedures, to support preparedness for a crisis.
    • Deliver security training to staff and review security training needs in order to develop measures to meet business requirements.
    • Supervise and provide on-the-job training to other staff supporting their development and high performance.
    • Other as required.

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience Required for the Job
    Education:

    • Completion of secondary school education.
    • A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area.
    • Completion of University degree is an advantage.

    Experience:
    A minimum of 5 years relevant support experience is required in the following:

    • Has gained sound knowledge of security operations technical processes.
    • Has provided technical guidance and training to staff members within area of expertise.
    • Has supported research and collation of data which feeds into reports that inform security operations activities.
    • Knowledge of UN rules and regulations is an added advantage.

    Language:

    • Fluency (level C) in English language.
    • Knowledge of Hausa and Kanuri local languages is desirable.

    Job Description

    • Under the supervision and guidance of the Head of Area Office, the Communications Associate will provide research and specialised communications services that support the creation of content and services aimed at maintaining and enhancing WFP’s visibility and reputation and supporting fundraising activities.

    Key Responsibilities (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority):

    • Perform specialised communications processes and activities, to support staff in the development, preparation, execution and dissemination of campaigns for target audiences.
    • Conduct research, suggest ideas, and provide coordination support to ensure the timely and effective delivery of video/film, photographic and radio projects. Manage the storage and distribution of audio/visual materials in accordance with relevant policies.
    • Serve as an information focal point, support and/or coordinate media coverage of events to optimise publicity of WFP’s activities.
    • Organise and execute special events, working closely with colleagues, external partners and media, to ensure events are effectively scheduled, publicised and attended.
    • Monitor traditional and social media, and report relevant information to senior staff to inform the development and/or evaluation of communications activities and strategies.
    • Under guidance, prepare content for use on traditional and social media platforms and networks, and printed materials, to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages.
    • Distribute and promote communications guidelines for WFP staff to refer to when creating content.
    • Manage updates and further develop internal records and databases, ensuring information is accurate, organised and available for others to access.
    • Respond to specialised queries and requests for support, using initiative and following standard processes, to ensure timely and accurate resolution of all enquiries.
    • Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, in order to provide an aligned, coherent service, and to identify opportunities to collaborate/integrate processes and activities.
    • Implement improvements to communications methods and practices, to contribute to a better flow of information about WFP’s work to the media and stakeholders.
    • Other as required.
