    Driver - Liberia Country Office (LRFO)

    Objectives

     

    The Liberia Country Office (LRFO) of the African Development Bank has been established to strengthen policy dialogue between the Bank, Governments and other stakeholders; improve performance of the project portfolio and aid coordination with other development partners.

     

    The Bank invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill in the vacant position of Driver. This position is based in Monrovia, Liberia and does not attract international terms and conditions.

    Duties and responsibilities

     

    Under the overall supervision of the Resident Representative and the day to day supervision of the Administrative Assistant of the Liberia Country Office, the incumbent will be responsible for the following:

    • Transporting the Resident Representative, Field staff, visiting missions and official delegation of the Office on official duties, within Liberia as and when required;
    • Ensuring routine maintenance for the vehicles of the Office;
    • Performing office messenger duties;
    • Representing the Bank in a professional manner and appearance and conduct at all times;
    • Performing any other duties reasonably requested by the Resident Representative and management.

    Selection Criteria

     

    • High School Diploma;
    • Valid driver’s license with a clean track record; 
    • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience as a driver in an international/multinational organization, or public or private sector organization;
    • Experience and skills in minor vehicle repairs, and routine maintenance for the vehicles;
    • Must have working knowledge of the rules and regulations involved in the safe and efficient operation of automotive equipment;
    • Very good command of written and spoken English;
    • Competence in the use of standard Microsoft software e.g. Microsoft Word and use of internet;
    • Honest and good character;
    • Excellent team work and interpersonal Skills.

    Secretaries/Team - Administrative Assistants (Short Term Contract (STS)

    Objectives

     

    The Secretary/Administrative-Team Assistant will report to the Director or a member of the Bank’s management team. He/She will provide secretarial and administrative support, ensuring the day to day functioning of the office; coordinating all office management activities and manage the office’s interface with organizational units and external parties.

    Duties and responsibilities

     

    Under the overall supervision of the Executive Director or Manager, the incumbent will carry out the following duties:

    1. Organize and manage the office of the Director or Manager.
    2. Oversee the office’s document processing, filing and tracking system.
    3. Assist in managing and maintaining the Director or Manager’s diary and email.
    4. Filter and direct incoming visitors, correspondence, emails and telephone calls, highlighting urgent and priority matters requiring the Manager or Director’s attention.
    5. Draft, type and dispatch memoranda, acknowledgement letters and responses to correspondence, and follow-up with relevant members of the office team.
    6. Proofread routine documents prepared for the Manager or Director’s attention and signature, in consultation with relevant members of the office team.
    7. Schedule meetings between the Manager or Director and key stakeholders within and outside the Bank and compile relevant documentation and briefings.
    8. Compile engagements, invitations and other requests for weekly diary meetings.
    9. Coordinate travel and accommodation arrangements and produce a folder with diary and background documents for missions.
    10. Coordinate necessary arrangements for visitors.
    11. Provide administrative support, including preparation of administrative forms and processing of requests in SAP.
    12. Provide administrative support to members of the office.
    13. Carry out all other secretarial and administrative duties as required.

    Selection Criteria

     

    1. A minimum of a License / Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent in Legal, Finance, Accounting,  Administration, IT or related discipline, preferably supplemented with courses in secretarial duties, training/administration/office management.
    2. Have relevant and progressive experience in the fields of expertise concerned.
    3. Experience in international organizations will be an asset.
    4. Experience of arranging international travel for managers, including processing advances and claims.
    5. Strong customer service skills, good organizational and planning skills, ability to multitask, attention to detail and ability to work with a diverse workforce.
    6. Sociable personality that facilitates good interaction between the individual, and internal and external parties including on the phone.
    7. Strong proactive “can-do” approach. Applicants must have the ability, energy and appropriate demeanor to take initiative and plan and carry out necessary tasks to ensure the office’s activities are successful.
    8. Excellent and professional communication skills are required.
    9. Strong typing skills.
    10. Excellent sense of initiative, confidentiality, enthusiasm, and team spirit.
    11. Knowledge of rules and procedures or experience in relation to working with elected officers.
    12. Excellent written and verbal communication in English or French, with a good working knowledge of the other language.
    13. Competence in the use of standard Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Projects); knowledge of SAP would be an added advantage.

    NB: This position is for a short term staff service contract (STS).  This is not a regular position of the African Development Bank.  The contract for this assignment is for a period of three (3) months renewable, based on the incumbent’s performance and the Institution’s needs.

    Objectives

     

    Participants in the Program are selected on a competitive basis, based on business needs of the Bank.

     

    The broad objectives of the program are to:

    • Provide students with an opportunity to acquire professional and practical experience at the African Development Bank.
    • Provide the Bank with a pool of potential candidates for future recruitment purposes.

    However applicants should not expect the internship to lead to immediate employment with the AfDB.

    Duties and responsibilities

     

    • The fields of study from which interns are selected must be within the job families of the Bank, particularly Economics, Agriculture, Private Sector Development, Human Capital Development (Education and Health), Environment, Finance, Infrastructure Development, Human Resources Management, Information Technology, Communications, Law, Internal Audit, Budget, Governance or any other field of study that the Bank may deem relevant to its operations.
    • Special consideration shall be given to students who are working on projects that have a direct bearing on the mission of the Bank.
    • Internships shall be performed either at the Bank's headquarters in Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire) or in any one of the Bank's field offices or Regional Centres.
    • The program is annually run for two sessions as follows:
      • Winter - Session I: January through March. (closed)
      • Summer - Session II: June through August.
    • Internships shall be granted to each candidate for a period not less than three (3) months and not more than six (6) months. The internship will be authorized only once for any candidate.
    • Interns shall be responsible for their air travel (where applicable) to and from the Bank's location as well as their upkeep.
    • Interns shall be responsible for their medical insurance coverage and for obtaining entry and residence visas in the host country of the Bank.
    • Eligible Interns will be provided with a monthly stipend, depending on the budget availability.

    Selection Criteria

     

    To be eligible for internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Students, aged between eighteen (18) to thirty (30) years, and currently enrolled in a Bachelor's/Master's level degree program or its equivalent in a recognized public or private institution of higher learning.
    • The candidate can apply for an internship within one (1) year of having obtained such a degree.
    • Provide a letter from their school confirming their enrollment or a copy of the above mentioned Degree.
    • Citizens of one of the Bank's member countries.
    • Applicants must be fluent in at least one of the Banks's two working languages (English or French).
