    Deputy General Manager, Shipyard

    Job description
    Reporting to the Group Management Committee, the General Manager will oversee the general management as well as the commercial and financial development of the Business Unit.

    The position will suit a candidate with a strong entrepreneurship spirit and a yearn for challenge. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team with strong development ambitions.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Operation

    • Responsible for the effective management of the company operations in line with the strategic direction set by the Group.
    • To lead and manage cross functional departmental teams within the company including those of the production, procurement, accounts, stores, sales and human resource departments.
    • To meet project deliverables in accordance to contract requirement with respect to time, quality and cost.
    • To be responsible of the execution of the activities of the site, in terms of quality, safety, respect of commitments and obligations.
    • To ensure operations and services are in line with Company’s QHSE policies.
    • To ensure technical, logistical, and operational support of all ongoing service contracts.

    Financial Management

    • To develop, recommend and administer annual operating and capital budgets
    • Experience with Profit and Loss.
    • To plan and monitor expenditures to ensure cost effective support of programmes and policies.
    • To monitors, oversee and control revenue generating activities.

    Business developments

    • To develop and execute business expansion / diversification plans.
    • To capture market intelligence, provide key inputs for tenders and pricing.
    • To develop and execute business expansion plans for key existing customers.
    • To Maintain and develop the relationship with the local stakeholders, customers, partners and institutions.
    • To interact and engage with external parties in order to enhance the reputation of the Company and facilitate the growth of the business.

    • To be able to gain input from many different people and use a participative decision-making approach when appropriate.

    Education

    • Having MBA in Management / Financial Management will be an added advantage.
    • Alternatively the candidate may have minimum master’s degree in business management or financial management degree with experience in working in industrial and technical fields.

    Experience

    • Minimum 8-10 years experience as a profit centre head in a shipyard, ship repair site, engineering industry or similar industry.
    • In-depth knowledge of all business functions associated with shipyard and  general engineering management.
    • Proven ability to work in a challenging, dynamic and stressful environment.
    • Experience working in Africa shall be an added advantage.
    • Fluent English is a must and French would be appreciated.

    Job description 

    • Provides support and coordination for all Compliance, Law and Patents activities in the country organization.
    • Ensures all relevant company's Compliance, Law and Patents processes and functions and all relevant internal regulations and ensures that these are observed at the local level within the legal framework of the relevant country.
    • Operate, in all cases in compliance with the globally defined processes and best practices for the Compliance, Law and Patents function, carry out the following activities.
    • Provide legal advice and counsel to business and platform functions in the country to ensure that the current and proposed activities, policies, business practices and transactions comply with relevant laws and regulations.
    • Support overall legal and Corporate Compliance of the company' in the country by coordinating the corporate compliance activities needed such as trainings, seminars and focused campaigns and reports to the Compliance Officer.
    • Serve typically as the Country Compliance Function
    • Provide assistance in the development, review and provision of appropriate Compliance policies and Procedures, training and/or communications, to help ensure ongoing compliance, consistency and risk avoidance
    • Provide assistance in connection with the implementation of approved plans of the global ICM project.
    • Prepare contracts, letters and other documents related to a variety of trade, commercial, promotional, regulatory, financial and other operational matters to protect the company assets and the overall organization’s legal and business interests

    • Manage active and/or defence litigation including ensuring proper representation by outside counsel (while securing case reporting and strategic alignment)
    • Report (and interpret/enforce) court or government authority/agency decisions, statutes and governmental regulations and advise management on pending developments in these areas
    • Interact/negotiate with the legal representatives of customers, trade associations government authorities/agencies, including law-enforcement agencies
    • Draft corporate documents
    • Manage outside counsels
    • Provide support and advice in matters related to labour laws, industrial relations, employments contracts and conditions of employment
    • Lead and direct the process of identifying, measuring and managing insurable or hazard risks which may hinder company property, equipment or resources (human & capital)
    • Negotiate a sufficiently controlled, cost effective and appropriate combination of insurance, loss prevention, or other risk financing/management programs that help optimize operations
    • Supervise, lead and direct key risk coverage programs and manage claims and loss of any kind against insurance companies or third parties in a proper and efficient way 

    Requirements

    • A minimum of 3 years of legal relevant experience in multinational or a law firm environment
    • University degree in Law
    • Strength in planning, organization and management with a track record in handling multiple projects and cases.
    • Strong analytical skills to assess risk involvement, extent of legal liability, financial impact and long term effects of own decisions
    • Team-oriented leadership skills honed through experience with senior management
    • Developed communication skills
    • Understanding of complex business issues and strategies
    • French is a plus

    Job description 

    • Has a good knowledge of the general principles of accounting standards (ledger accounts, analytical accounting, etc.) and applies this knowledge correctly and independently to the companies falling within his remit
    • Organizes and coordinates the smooth functioning of the accounts required by the articles of association and the analytical accounts of one or more entities (the management and application of standard accounting systems, training and supervising associates if necessary, etc.). The above always takes place in the context of the requirements of the law and in consultation with his/her direct supervisor
    • Is able to read the balance sheet items of a financial report and to understand and interpret them. Makes an extensive analysis of balance sheet accounts (fixed assets, accounts payable, current accounts, etc.)
    • Establishes a satisfactory follow-up method for the analytical coding in his/her entities
    • Has a good knowledge and view of all existing accounts. In other words knows where what should be booked
    • Is responsible for the integration of the pay reports into the accounts and in doing so, taking into account national (shipping reduction, etc.) and international arrangements
    • Is responsible for the delivery of information for internal financial audits and external audits as well as in assisting with supplying all data for internal audits
    • Prepares overviews and analyses regarding sub-contractors, lease contracts, charter parties, etc
    • Prepares the financial reports required by the articles of association and the analytical quarterly reports for his/her immediate supervisor and/or the company’s consolidation department
    • Keeps an eye on deadlines and if necessary sends reminders. Does this both internally (subsidiaries, departments) and externally (sub-contractors, customers, etc.)
    • Checks that suppliers and sub-contractors are compliant with the requirements of social security and tax law. Informs the party concerned and his/her direct supervisor if this not the case
    • Makes a monthly check of the VAT/social security status of the entities which fall within his remit as well as of suppliers and customers
    • Has a good knowledge of both the national and international VAT legislation and can in this respect bring about optimization in consultation with Tax Department (e.g. what VAT may be deducted, etc.)
    • Attend to the VAT returns and administration without assistance
    • Makes proposals for the optimization of VAT and other tax to his/her direct supervisor and/or Tax Department
    • Monitors recent national and international developments in the law and is able to implement these in his own field of activity. Works in and collects information about national and international tax law in consultation with Tax Department
    • Makes quarterly updates of the financial reports required by the articles of association and the analytical accounts for the entities falling within his remit, and reports on this to his/her direct supervisor.
    • Retains relevant reports about the project inventory management (W&T, consumables, etc.) if employed on a site
    • Retains relevant reports and overviews (insurance, payroll administrations, bonds and guarantees, invoicing and payment plan, etc.)
    • Prepares a liquidity plan at regular intervals for the entities in his/her remit
    • Actively monitors the currency and fuel hedging in his/her entities
    • Makes up a local tax plan covering several years for his/her entities
    • Attends to the reporting (overview of claims, payments, interest calculations, etc.) for Joint Ventures
    • Ensures that the filing system and archive is up to date
    • Responsible for the external reporting to various government agencies (e.g keeping statistics, reporting information needed for certain permits, etc.)
    • Responsible for compiling and filing the annual accounts of the entities
    • Helps with external audits, transfer cost audits, and all other tax audits, including VAT inspections 

    Requirements 

    • First degree in accounting from a reputable university
    • At least five years experience in an international company as accountant, preferably in marine works industry
    • Operational knowledge of Tax Regulations & Law in Nigeria
    • PC tools literate
    • Able to work in Dynamics AX

    Job description 

    The Executive Assistant will provide support to the MD Nigeria by effectively managing his/her schedule and performing a wide variety of responsible, complex and confidential administrative, secretarial, analytical and research duties.
    The candidate will report directly to the Managing Director and be based in Lagos.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Calendar management: coordinate and schedule appointments and meetings. Plan, schedule and coordinate F&A Departmental meetings, retreats and other events with other Departments. Prepare agendas, make copies, set up room, coordinate with speakers, take and type notes etc.
    • Coordinate travel arrangements for the MD and other staff as needed, process MDs expense report: travel authorizations, flight tickets, hotel bookings, visas, airport transfers, petty cash reimbursements, etc.
    • Receive daily mail, sort and distribute properly; make copies of financial statements, handouts and other documents. Keep MD apprised of time sensitive matters/mailings/phone calls. Fax/scan and mail letters and other documents.
    • Coordinate events, conferences and meetings by arranging the appropriate space to facilitate the event. This will include scheduling catering invites and attendees when needed and controlling the budget for such.
    • Produce and proofread correspondences, presentations with Power Point and Excel or other materials as directed by the MD.

    Requirements 

    • BSc or BA degree in a relevant social sciences discipline.
    • Minimum of at least 5 years of experience supporting Executive Management.
    • Possess outstanding administrative and organizational skills.
    • Must be customer-focused, flexible, and forward thinking.
    • Good communication skills.
