    International Consulant - Editor for Violence Against Children Documents

    Purpose of Assignment:

    The Consultant will, under the direct supervision of the Child Protection Specialist and with contributions from the C4D Section, revise and edit the Violence against Children Study reports, the Response Plan and Factsheets.

    Specific Tasks to be accomplished:

    i. Editing all aspects of the final version of the VAC Study Full and Summary Reports, the Response Plan and the Fact Sheets. Among other tasks, the editor will need to review the documents for internal consistency, develop an appropriate concept and outline for the documents and as well as develop introductory and recommendation chapters.

    ii. Editing, rewriting and illustrating (diagrams, maps, etc.) the VAC Study reports, the Response Plan and Fact sheets in an accessible, readable and clear way that will appeal to the Government of Nigeria and the social context. The editor will also need to assist with highlighting, extracting and simplifying key messages from the text including developing a child friendly version Factsheet to ensure comprehension for a non-technical audience and will need to undertake structuring and/or re-organisation of the sections of the reports to ensure proper flow and readability.

    iii. Copy editing and proof reading all the material in the reports.

    Qualifications or specialized knowledge/experience required:

    • Advanced university degree in English or related social/ behavioural sciences (International Relations, Sociology, Anthropology).
    • At least 5 years of proven experience in editing reports and publications in English
    • Experience in editing reports on social issues, including child protection, education, etc. and familiarity with UNICEF/UN terminology will be an asset.
    • Knowledge of current developments in the fields of violence against children, child protection, advocacy, communication research, planning and monitoring.
    • Computer skills, including various office applications and internet navigation skills
    • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of other Nigerian languages will be an asset.

    Basic competencies include:

    · Current knowledge of development issues, strategies as well as programming policies and procedures in international development cooperation

    · Proven ability to conceptualize, innovate, plan and execute ideas, as well as to impart knowledge and skills

    · Good analytical, report-writing, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills

    · Computer skills, including internet navigation and various office application

    • Demonstration of ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organisation
