  • GlaxoSmithKline plc (GSK) is a British multinational pharmaceutical, biologics, vaccines and consumer healthcare company which has its headquarters in Brentford, London. As of March 2014, it was the world's sixth-largest pharmaceutical company after Johnson & Johnson, Novartis, Hoffmann-La Roche, Pfizer, and Sanofi, measured by 2013 revenue. The company was established in 2000 by the merger of Glaxo Wellcome (formed from the acquisition of Wellcome plc by Glaxo plc) and SmithKline Beecham plc (formed from the merger of Beecham Group plc and SmithKline Beckman Corporation, which in turn was formed by combining the Smith, Kline & French and Beckman companies).

    Head, Procurement

     

    Basic qualifications:
    • A good first degree
    • MBA, MCIPS preferred
    • At least 7 years experience in strategic procurement functions
    • Demonstrated experience of successfully leading teams within a country
    • Demonstrated expertise in Procurement processes is required, particularly with respect to developing & implementing significant strategies, stakeholder management and supplier relationship management.
    • Demonstrated experience in influencing strategy and managing across business units and interfacing with regional and global teams
    • Demonstrated experience in managing significant projects

    Details:

    • People leadership
    o Lead and direct Procurement team across multiple countries within a region
    o Develop and implement effective ways of working across the team to ensure a cohesive approach
    o Ensure appropriate communication strategy across the team is in place and in use
    o Develop the team and individual capabilities from both technical and behavioral aspects

    • Strategy creation & execution
    o Create comprehensive sourcing strategies for spend categories in scope of responsibility, aligned with the requirements of stakeholders and business partners
    o Align with appropriate Regional and Global category teams and work in collaboration with these teams to provide local business requirements and market information to support effective collaborative regional and global strategy creation and execution
    o Identify sustainable, long term savings opportunities through the strategy creation process, identifying and exploring all potential value levers
    o Create compelling business cases for change and obtain approval to execute
    o Be expert in local categories and supply markets

    • Benefit delivery
    o Deliver benefits identified in strategies, local, regional and global, through effective and collaborative strategy execution, aligned to assurance of supply (risk management), quality, service, cost and innovation
    o Ensure financial benefits are managed in accordance with the Spend Management Framework approach, ensuring business unit and Finance agreement to financial value delivered and transparency on treatment of benefits in the budgeting process
    o Create and deliver effective regional budgets (Plans of Purchase) agreed with key stakeholders and Finance in accordance with the Spend Management Framework and fully aligned with global budgets
    o Business partnering & stakeholder management
    o Build strategic relationships with a network of senior GSK global stakeholders, to understand business requirements, identify opportunities to create value and to position Procurement’s value proposition. Align sourcing strategies accordingly
    o Influence key stakeholders and business partners to support strategy development, endorse recommended strategies, support execution and agree how benefit delivery will be budgeted

    • External supplier relationships
    o Build strategic relationships with key suppliers at a senior level and lead processes to ensure value is driven from these relationships. Ensure local considerations are accounted for in global & regional supplier relationships.
    o Ensure supplier relationships which present potential risks to GSK (for example where supplier has balance of power, monopolies, sole sources etc) are managed to minimize risk to GSK
    o Negotiate, create, execute and manage effective contracts with suppliers that will allow GSK to maximize opportunity. Influence category teams to ensure regional considerations are taken into account in global & regional supplier negotiations and contracts
    o Manage the supply base for the categories within scope through a robust performance management process. Ensure supplier performance is understood and measured.
    o Develop Operational Excellence strategies and plans for key suppliers to drive improvement against KPIs
    o Lead supply base reviews and strategy reviews.

    • Supply chain & risk management
    o Transform the supply chain to release value and make GSK more responsive to business and customer needs – for example in cost control, complexity reduction, simplification, best practice procurement and use of KPIs
    o Identify and manage significant risks in the supply chain. Ensure appropriate mitigation plans are in place and in use and that the risks are communicated appropriately within business units impacted, Procurement and the supply base
