    Senior Research Support Officer

    Job Description     :    
    • Assist in production of yam planting material and associated activities;
    • Assist in virus indexing production of clean yam propagation material monitoring and reporting;
    • Participation in field surveys, data management and analysis;
    • Preparation of technical reports and involvement in any other responsibilities as may be assigned by your supervisor.
         
    Minimum Qualification & Experience     :    
    • BSc in Plant Biology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Biotechnology or closely related fields.
    • A minimum of four (4) years’ experience in a similar position
         
    Skills & abilities     :   
    • Experienced in laboratory research and good knowledge in general laboratory management.
    • Experience in application of diagnostics techniques as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), polymerase chain reaction (PCR), nucleic acid isolation and computational skills.
    • Experience in propagation of planting material; tissue culture experience is an added advantage; and excellent ability to prepare technical reports and information flyers.
    • Should be a good team player, and be able to complete research activities on-time and submit reports.

    Project Administrator

    Job Description     :    
    • Assist the Project Manager in ensuring that activities are completed on time, within budget and meet quality assurance standards. This will include developing and implementing plans for monitoring project progress as well as scheduling project meetings;
    • Establish and maintain project management information system;
    • Develop and maintain plans to support the project including analyses of tasks, schedules, and resources needed;
    • Monitor project adherence to the funding requirements;
    • Track expenditures and report monthly on the status of the project budget;
    • Plan for resources needed to support project implementation and assist with procurement of required items in consultation with IITA’s Supply Chain department;
    • Assist the project in technical and financial reporting to the donor
    • Manage project support team members;
    • Manage the project office and ensure efficient travel and other arrangements for project meetings and workshops;
    • Any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
         
    Minimum Qualification & Experience     :    
    • MA or MSc Degree in Management, Business Administration, Biological Sciences, Social Sciences or related field.
    • A minimum of Four (4) years experience in a similar position.
         
    Skills & abilities     :    
    • Project management qualification (e.g. Prince 2 or Microsoft Project) and demonstrated project management skills
    • Experience in working with governments, multilateral and bilateral development agencies and civil society organizations
    • Experience with budget preparation and monitoring, and project activity monitoring
    • Experience in supervising support teams
         
    Personal Qualities     :    
    • Ability to meet tight deadlines for various activities
    • Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks, paying keen attention to detail
    • Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English (French language ability will be an added advantage)
    • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional, and multi-cultural environment
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and conversance with social networking tools.

    Project Assistant

    Description     :    
    • Maintain the project partner and stakeholder database, making sure the database is populated and data is kept up-to-date;
    • Maintain website of the breeding community of practice through a mechanism of regular updates and communication with relevant stakeholders;
    • Assist in data management including documentation of baseline data collected in the various countries;
    • Assist in developing information sharing products and putting together training materials
    • Assist in compiling reports to the donor;
    • Assist in organizing meetings and training events.
    • Perform any other duties as may be assigned as your supervisor.
       
    Minimum Qualification & Experience     :    
    • BSc/HND in Social Science, Arts or related discipline.
    • A minimum of Two (2) years experience in a similar position
         
    Skills & abilities     :    
    • Database management
    • Good knowledge of online social media tools
    • Good computer skills, MS-Office applications (use of document management applications, software for publishing and lay-outing will be an advantage)
    • Good communication skills, especially written communication
    • Good skills in data analysis
    • Good event management skills
    • Ability to work independently and ability to acquire skills quickly (fast learner)
    • Self-motivated and pro-active person, willing to take initiative
    • Excellent command of English language (knowledge of French and/or Hausa will be an advantage).

    Project Manager

    Job Description     :    
    • Coordinate an inter-disciplinary, international and culturally diverse project team; manage financial assets and ensure implementation of AfricaYam as per the project results framework and results tracker.
    • Together with the project team, develop project implementation, monitoring, delivery and communication plans.
    • Apply best practices and tools for project management, including budgeting, procurements, data management, troubleshooting, as well as high quality monitoring and evaluation (M&E) with support from IITA’s M&E officer.
    • Manage contracts between IITA and project partners; and ensure synergy between project partners.
    • Coordinate the required technical and financial reporting to the donor in consultation with project members, IITA’s Project Administration Office and the Finance Directorate.
    • Organize the establishment, and facilitate the operations, of a Technical Advisory Committee and a Project Management Team.
    • Coordinate organization of project events, including training/technical workshops, annual planning and review meetings, and meetings of the project’s Technical Advisory Committee.
    • Support relevant partners in project execution, management and sharing of information and knowledge, and effective stakeholder participation.
    • Ensure effective communication within the project team, identify shortfalls and devise contingency plans.
    • Represent the project to external stakeholders at scientific and other regional meetings.
         
    Minimum Qualification & Experience     :    
    • The candidate should have a PhD degree in plant or agricultural sciences or other relevant discipline from a recognized university.
         
    Skills & abilities     :    
    • At least 10 years of post-PhD experience.
    • Experience in managing multidisciplinary and international projects and demonstrated skills in team building and creation of synergies between project partners and activities
    • Experience in working with a wide range of partners, including national and international research institutes, universities, development actors and farmer organizations.
    • Familiarity with agriculture and farming systems in sub-Saharan Africa.
    • Proficiency in the use of project management software, databases, internet-based tools and other electronic communication tools.
    • Fluency in oral and written English; knowledge of French would be an asset.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Willingness to travel extensively within the West Africa sub-region.
