Job Description

• Analysing configurations of the basic structural components of a building or other structures
• Calculating the pressures, stresses and strains that each component, such as a beam or lintel, will experience from other parts of the structure due to human use or environmental pressures.
• Considering the strength of various materials, e.g. timber, concrete, steel and brick, to see how their inclusion may necessitate a change of structural design;
•  Liaising with other designers, including Architects, to agree on safe designs and their fit with the aesthetic concept of the construction
• Making drawings, specifications and computer models of structures for building contractors
• Investigating ground conditions and analysing results of site tests, such as soil samples
• Liaising with construction contractors and project managers to ensure that newly erected buildings are structurally sound
• Applying expert knowledge of the forces that act on various structures
• Using computers and computer-aided design (CAD) technology for simulation purposes.
• Designing structures to withstand pressures and forces.
• Liaising with other designers, including architects, to reach agreement about safe designs and how they may fit in with the aesthetic concept of the construction
• Ensure project designs are functional, safe and efficient.
• Ensure that the environmental impact of the project is managed and controlled.
• Assist in driving forward the continuous improvement agenda by raising the operating standards at the site.
• Ensure setting out (marking the position of structures), levelling site, check drawings and calculations are accurate for work.
• Improve services of the company by proposing, testing and executing more effective methods of construction/delivery, to the benefit of the company and the advancement of its projects.
• Delivery of works to program and budget.

Job Requirements:

• Possess minimum of a University Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Minimum of seven (7) years post-graduation experience in a reputable real estate company.
• Master’s Degree in relevant course is desirable.
• NSE/COREN membership/certification is desirable.
• Project Management certification is an added advantage.
• Computer literacy is highly required.
• Good communication skill (Oral and written) is essential.
