    Research and Policy Specialist

    Job Description

    • Monitor policy cycles across sectors, identifying opportunities for policy and legislative engagement on key issues affecting urban governance, environmental justice, gender, human rights and civic space.
    • Track and analyse policy developments, including legislation and regulations related to the organisation's thematic/focal areas and priorities ensuring that empirical information generated over time is used to inform public advocacy, litigation, campaigns, blog posts and talking points.
    • Research and communicate trends on relevant policy developments, social justice and topical issues around the organisation's thematic priorities.
    • Consulting with internal and external stakeholders to determine needs and ensure inclusion of relevant factors using an effective combination of advocacy, education, community organising, policy development, and coalition leadership.
    • Assist in resource mobilisation initiatives.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Master's Degree in Law, Statistics, International Development, Public Administration or related fields.
    • Specialised experience in similar roles may be considered in lieu of a Master's degree.
    • Very strong writing and public speaking skills.
    • Demonstrable evidence of research capabilities.
    • Minimum of five (5) years working experience.

    Programme Officer - Civic Space

    Job Description

    • Research, keep up-to-date on global and national trends, monitor policy developments and key human rights issues affecting the civic space: freedoms of speech and association.
    • Design and implement a wide range of research initiatives and advocacy campaigns to push back against closing civic spaces in Nigeria, and advocate an enabling environment for civil society.
    • Lead and support dissemination of research findings to reach broad and diverse audience, cutting across policy, civil society, academia, media, governmental and non-governmental entities.
    • Conducting awareness programmes, policy dialogues with decision-makers, and outreaches in urban and rural communities to deepen civic engagement on a wide range of crucial economic, social and political issues.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree (2.1) plus three (3) years relevant experience in fields at intersection of Law, Public Administration, International Development and Human Rights.
    • Excellent research and communication skills.
    • Research capability is a MUST.
    • Ability to track multiple simultaneous projects and initiatives.

    Communications Officer

    Job Description

    • Coordinate all the organization's advocacy activities: community outreaches, public hearings, workshops, conferences and social media etc.
    • Provide quality assurance on all external communications, ensuring consistency of message, and rapid response to stakeholder inquiries and information requests.
    • Draft and vet all advocacy materials including reports, fact sheets, press statements, newsletters, blog posts and talking points.
    • Play a key coordination role in coalition efforts, including managing coalition membership and relationships, meeting agenda, logistics, facilitation, and coalition communications.
    • Drive engagement and retention of coalition members.
    • Represent the organisational public and private events locally and internationallY.
    • Regularly update the organisation’s websites, social media portals, while ensuring streamlined and coherent messaging between web-based and non-web content.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • University Degree (Master) in Law, Political Science, Social Science, Economics, Business Management or other related social science field is required.
    • At least four (4) years of professional experience in the area of social sciences, economics, or development in a private organisation.
    • Ability to write clearly and convincingly, adapting style / content to different audiences.
    • Experience in graphic design is a plus.
