    Protection and Gender Officer

    Proposed Start Date: May 2021
    Contract End Date: March 2022

    Job Description

    • Action Against Hunger Nigeria Mission is looking for a Protection and Gender Officer to join our team in our Abuja Office, FCT.
    • The position reports directly to the WASH Head of Department and is required to lead the implementation of gender equality and social protection including mainstreaming initiatives and WASH strategies and RRM projects.

    Responsibilities

    • Leads and conduct gender analysis, technical studies, assessments on Gender in rapid response mechanism (RRM) projects.
    • Provides technical input on Gender Mainstreaming and/or coordinate technical support on gender sensitive and inclusive programming in WASH, Nutrition, and humanitarian protection sectors with relevant sector specialists if required;
    • Ensures that project activities are carried out with an inclusive lens, cultural sensitivity, promotes gender equality and inclusion of marginalised groups;
    • Works with field teams to ensure access and participation of women, men, girls and boys at risk to Action Against Hunger’s response, recovery and rehabilitation work.
    • Takes lead in the development of gender mainstreaming work plans in the implementation of all project activities in the LGA in collaboration and coordination with other sectors.
    • Leads in integrating gender into MEAL processes in operation areas; setting of specific indicators for process monitoring and follow up that, advising team in getting gender specific information thorough spot monitoring and Post Distribution Monitoring (PDM) process;
    • Initiates innovative documentation process to capture learning and changes, support team to obtain sex, age and other disaggregating data;
    • Supports local stakeholders in organizing and carrying out advocacy and campaign for greater gender equality and equity in humanitarian protection programmes.
    • Engages with state and local women’s rights organizations and mobilize collective voice around gender discrimination in the post conflict setting;
    • Proactively ensures Protection and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) measures and reporting mechanism are in place and raise awareness among teams, project stakeholders and community;
    • Provides orientation sessions to community stakeholders, including camp and host community leaders to increase understanding of gender and protection needs of beneficiaries;
    • Conduct capacity assessments and facilitate capacity building for the project teams to enhance their motivation and effective implementation of gender strategies;
    • Ensures identification and satisfaction of training needs for the project staff on relevant standards and instruments for gender equality and humanitarian protection;
    • Designs and implements demand-driven programme approaches and methodologies aiming towards capacity building, working in partnerships, policy analysis and advocacy;
    • Develops and facilitates capacity building programs on gender sensitivity and gender mainstreaming, as well as gender issues pertaining to gender advocacy;
    • Lead projects monitoring and reporting on gender equality and mainstreaming issues at the LGA level;
    • Local representation for AAH and coordination with other stakeholders within the intervention area.

    Position Requirements

    • Degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Gender Studies, or any related field;
    • At least 2-3 years’ experience in design, development and management of gender Equality in social protections programme including a minimum of 1 year in a field coordination role;
    • Experience in Gender Programming;
    • Deep understanding of guiding principles of Gender equality issues in the North east Nigeria and Adult Training strategies;
    • Well-developed knowledge and understanding of protection principles, gender mainstreaming and women’s rights, in areas of early recovery and resilience building;
    • Well-developed analytical and strategic planning skills with the ability to influence the wider programme strategy;
    • Demonstrated experience of conducting trainings, and providing capacity building to local partners and beneficiaries on gender issues;
    • Fluent in Hausa and Kanuri preferably;
    • Resilience, flexibility and adaptability to work successfully under stressful conditions;
    • A high level of social-cultural sensitivity when dealing with colleagues, partners and beneficiaries;
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and tact, in order to be able to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders, including NGO partners, community leaders and government officials;
    • User level computer literacy (Office Package, Outlook, etc.);
    • Willingness to travel and reside in rural, remote and insecure areas.

    Remuneration

    • Minimum Basic Salary: N260,244 Naira

    Finance Assistant / Archivist

    Description

    • Action Against Hunger Nigeria Mission is looking for Finance Assistant and Finance Archivist to join our team in our Abuja Office, FCT.
    • The Finance Assistant position reports directly to the Finance Officer, while the Finance Archivist reports to the Finance Assistant.
    • The two roles are required to provide support to the Finance department ensuring effective finance service delivery for effective implementation of AAH programs.

    Responsibilities

    • Check the nature of the document and its presentation (photocopy, original, pro forma, translation, date, signature, stamp, terms used, accuracy of calculations, etc.);
    • Record in the filing report all errors in the wads (bundles);
    • Whenever possible, improve the quality of the presentation of words: translation, date (according to the data base file), addition of a calculation note (ticket), etc;
    • After the monthly accounting closure check the accounting codes, the project codes and the budget codes;
    • Support in Donor Audit Listing;
    • E-archiving documentation;
    • Check that all invoices and their amounts are present as from their reception and the coherence with the accountancy in Saga;
    • Prepare a report for the Finance Officer of all missing invoices or differences in amounts from the SAGA extracted file.

    Position Requirements

    • Degree in Accounting, Management, Finance, or related field;
    • Minimum of 1 year experience in finance and administration-related role;
    • Exceptional organization and planning skills;
    • Strong computer skills, and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel;
    • Experience in the International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) and Humanitarian context preferably;
    • Good interpersonal skills  (communication, able to negotiate, influence, give effective feedback, be a team player);
    • Ability to work in a team and juggle competing priorities;
    • Ability to manage and follow work plans;

    Health System Strengthening Officer

    Description

    • Action Against Hunger Nigeria Mission is recruiting a Health Officer who will support the implementation and management of planned health activities.

    Tasks and Responsibilities

    • In consultation with HSS Sector Manager carry out health system assessment; diagnosis of the health system in line with defined methodology with the aim of identifying the gap in the targeted facilities, and in the LGAs levels;
    • Coordinate the training of frontline health workers on continues medical education;
    • Coordinate with the HSS Sector Manager to train frontline health workers through the coordination centre;
    • Facilitate the training of frontline health workers identified by the HSS Sector Manager.
    • Provide technical support to Health Facilities in the development of facility plans to ensure all identified gaps in the health system are addressed;
    • Monitor and report on the quality of nutrition and health services in facilities;
    • Present Nutrition and Health service delivery gaps and improvements during the LGA coordination meeting;
    • Support and strengthen community participation in the health system;
    • Facilitate the implementation of HSS activities in line with HSS activity timeline;
    • Ensure budget utilization for HSS interventions in line with the financial forecast  and the HSS timelines;
    • Ensure compliance to logistic and finance during planning of workshops, trainings and/or meeting that requires financial advances and/or logistical procurement etc;
    • Monitor the project activities and output targets are achieved on a monthly basis;
    • Maintain close collaboration with LGA Health and Nutrition department and political leadership on health and nutrition issues in the supported LGAs;
    • Build relationships with INGOs and local NGOs for synergies in nutrition and health service delivery to avoid duplication of efforts in the targeted LGAs.;
    • Follow up of the HSS action plan with ACTION AGAINST HUNGER teams and external stakeholders working in the targeted LGAs;
    • Compile monthly reports and share with line manager;
    • Organize and lead the LGA based monthly coordination meetings and support LGA teams on health and nutrition structural issues including reporting and service gaps;
    • Contribute to the professional development and improvement of team members under supervision by providing support.

    Requirements

    • Degree in Medicine / Public Health / Nursing / or related field;
    • Certificate in project management for development will be an added advantage;
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in primary health care system and good understanding of Nigeria health system structure;
    • Previous role at coordination / supervisory level is required
    • Fluency in English and Hausa language will be added advantage;
    • Working knowledge of MS office;
    • Work experience in humanitarian settings
    • Work experience with government health care system is an added advantage
    • Experience of working in partnership with or directly with the Ministry of Health is preferable
    • Ability to plan and organize work Independent with appropriate follow-through while paying close attention to detail and can read and abstract information from a variety of formats.
    • Ability to delegate and follow up of task among teams
    • Ability to manage a wide range of stakeholders for collaboration, coordination and consultation.

    Minimum Basic Salary
    260,244 NGN per month.

    Research Officer

    Description

    • Action Against Hunger Nigeria Mission is recruiting for a Research Officer to join our team in our Damaturu office.
    • This person will lead the successful production of evidence-based data, support to the decision making process for strategic orientation, conduct a comparative analysis of the FSL component of the project, information management, documentation and sharing of key research findings.

    Responsibilities

    • Producing high quality and varied research outputs for a range of audiences including analysis, report writing and presentations where necessary on project operations.
    • Maintaining database of all research activities/interventions.
    • Archiving all finalized research work plans, monthly action plans, and updated databases related to all research activities.
    • Analyze and resolve research issues in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Coordinate with AAH M&E Units for appropriate guidance on procedures such as defining research agenda, and methodologies, defining and validation of data tools for use in various research  program activities.
    • Ensure coordination and collaboration with other technical sector lead during all research processes.
    • Conducting both qualitative and quantitative analysis of data collected through interviews, focus groups workshops or other methods.
    • Carrying out desktop research, using a range of methods and sources of data, related to inequality and social innovation practice globally.
    • Organizing, designing and carrying out qualitative fieldwork.
    • Carrying out quantitative data analysis of existing secondary data sets and primary quantitative data, using Excel and/or SPSS.
    • Perform day-to-day supervision of enumerators.
    • Coordinate with management in budget preparation and expense control activities.
    • Maintenance of research database.
    • In conjunction with the Project Manager and M&E team, support documentation of key lessons learnt and all learning activities under the SUNNY project initiatives.

    Requirements

    • Degree in Economics, Statistics, Demography or related subject, with previous experience working in humanitarian projects;
    • At least 3 years of proven experience in the research or M&E of humanitarian or development programs;
    • Demonstrated knowledge of research, M&E concepts and international humanitarian quality standards;
    • Evidence of past research conducted or contributed tools;
    • Experience with mobile data collection (preferred);
    • Fluency in English (both written and spoken skills).
