    Nutrition Officer

    Child Safeguarding

    • Level 3: The responsibilities of this post may require the post holder to have regular contact with children and young people.
    • As part of these responsibilities, the post holder will support the establishment of child safeguarding systems, promote a culture of keeping children safe, and ensure that potential harm to children (by our own staff and/or as a result of how we do our work) is identified and addressed on an ongoing basis. 
    • The post holder should report and respond to interventions as determined by position related responsibilities identified in the Child Safeguarding Policy.

    Role

    • To support the breastfeeding counsellors of the Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergency and Community management of malnutrition Programme.
    • On a day to day basis, assist the Nutrition Coordinator in ensuring that all components of the programme are functioning properly, providing care of quality to all the beneficiaries.
    • In addition to this, he/she will ensure that the CMAM program is functioning properly, providing quality care to all the beneficiaries, respecting protocols and principles of good practice.

    Main Responsibilities
    The post holder will receive a context specific ToR for each deployment, which will draw upon the responsibilities outlined below.

    Programme Support (typically will be at field level):

    • Plan and organise OTP/SFP at designated distribution sites in liaison with Nutrition Coordinator and Specialist
    • Complete order forms for the logistics team of material, medicine and food requirements for each site for the week in advance
    • Support field level technical assessments in coordination with the Nutrition response lead and other SC thematic areas and/or other external sector agencies, ensuring assessment findings are documented and that all assessments include a specific analysis of children’s needs.
    • With support from the Nutrition Coordinator and/or other senior programme staff, support with inputs in the development of high-quality concept notes and proposals.
    • With the support of the Nutrition Coordinator, support project implementation to ensure timely delivery of project activities (for example, monitoring against log frames, individual performance management work plans).
    • Working closely with the Nutrition Coordinator and/or other senior programme staff, support timely programme and donor reports on project activities in compliance with internal SC requirements and any relevant external donor requirements.
    • Working closely with the Nutrition Specialist and the Nutrition Coordinator and/or other senior programme staff, help in the identification and recruitment and training of community mobilisers and/or project volunteers
    • With support from the Nutrition Coordinator and/or other senior programme staff, identify programme supplies needs and coordinate with the team to put in place a sensible phased procurement plan.
    • Responsibility for the day to day management of project site activities and staff (IYCF, CMAM, deworming and micronutrient supplementation)
    • Provide technical support to Save the Children staff (IYCF-E, CMAM, health, Child Protection and others as necessary), MoH, partners and other humanitarian actors as necessary to promote consistent good practice
    • Ensure all staff understand and implement programme guidelines used for assessing the mother-child pair, advising the best feeding option and following up as appropriate.
    • Ensure appropriate and consistent education messaging to mothers and other carers at Child-Friendly Shelters and in the community.
    • Facilitate the development and scheduling of volunteer outreach activities
    • With the Breastfeeding Counsellors and Child Protection staff, develop monthly work plans for the Child-Friendly Shelters.
    • Prepare field visit plans and supervision checklist in advance of trips.
    • Compile monthly activity reports and assist with stock consumption/distribution plans for each of the OTPs as required.
    • At field sites, liaise with other humanitarian actors, local authorities, ministries and the military as appropriate, to maximize collaboration and ensure proper coordination of activities.
    • With support from the Monitoring & Evaluation team support the M & E plan implementation within the Nutrition projects, ensuring this links to reporting requirements.
    • With support from the Accountability Lead ensure accountability is enforced in all project activities as well as ensuring that feedback from children and their families is considered in project design/implementation
    • To ensure that the minimum standards of humanitarian relief are maintained in accordance with the Sphere Charter and Red Cross Code of Conduct.

    Capacity Building:

    • Conduct training to build the capacity of Nutrition Assistants and volunteers in the community.

    Representation & Advocacy & Organisational Learning:

    • Ensure that Save the Children's work is coordinated with efforts of other agencies and Government, and support Interagency Coordination forums, advocating for the specific needs of children.
    • Attend regular nutrition meetings and LGA meeting. Liaise with other sectors for up to date information on SCI work in the LGA

    General:

    • Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.

    Qualifications and Experience
    Essential:

    • Health / Nurse / Public Health / Nutrition / BSc or equivalent
    • Minimum of 2 years progressive experience post NYSC
    • Demonstrable management experience
    • Experience in nutrition work (preferably CMAM) and implementation of feeding programs, including monitoring and evaluation
    • Experience in conducting nutrition assessments and an understanding of nutritional surveillance and information systems
    • The proven capacity of management, leadership and teamwork
    • Excellent communication skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive and empathise with all beneficiaries and their carers
    • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions
    • Demonstrable ability at report writing
    • Prepared to live and work in an uncertain security environment
    • Ability and willingness to frequently travel and stay at the field
    • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles
    • Demonstrable ability at report writing and excellent communication skills
    • Fluency in written
    • Knowledge of the local languages (Hausa & Kanuri)
    • Computer literacy.

    Desirable:

    • Registered nurse/midwife with community health care experience
    • Emergency programming experience.

    Logistics Officer

    Child Safeguarding

    • Level 3- The responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with children or young people and, in the overseas context all posts are considered to be level 3 posts in view of potential situations which may allow staff unsupervised access to vulnerable children and young people.

    Role Purpose:

    • The Logistics Officer is responsible for managing drivers and warehouse staff, vehicle fleet, assets, warehousing and distribution to ensure effective, transparent and accountable logistics support to Save the Children program in the area of operation. Liaison with program teams to ensure adequate logistical consideration for coordination and planning of program implementation. Provides technical support and guidance to program teams on logistical elements of distribution & procurement planning.

    Key Areas of Accountability
    Transport & Fleet:

    • Managing and tracking of all vehicles on the fleet, including movement planning and day-to-day allocation
    • Manage, maintain and repair vehicles in safe and efficient working order
    • Ensure that vehicles are checked on a daily basis, and that regular service and maintenance is carried out as per agreed schedule
    • Responsible for administering litigations and traffic offenses.
    • Ensure vehicles have current and lawful documentation.
    • Manage service agreements related to vehicle maintenance and fuelling. Monitor fuel consumption and submit monthly reports
    • Receive travel requests, and maintain trip schedules and Staff Movement Board.
    • Coordinate with incoming and outgoing travelers on pick up and drop times ensuring drivers are briefed of movement plans
    • Ensure best value for money and that travelers are clearly informed well in advance
    • Establish and maintain a list of contact details for preferred service providers including generator service and vehicle maintenance.

    Assets Management:

    • Maintaining up-to-date control of all assets including tracking donor, value, and location, managing staff issue, and recording all asset movements and disposals
    • Oversee the issuance and return of assets to/from staff
    • Ensure good condition of assets, and maintain asset condition reports.
    • Conduct monthly asset checks and share report with CO assets management focal person
    • Conduct bi-annual physical verification of assets as required and share completed physical asset check report to CO as required.
    • Ensure timely reporting of asset losses and damages using existing reporting templates.

    Warehouse and Distribution:

    • Enter all new items purchased in SCI TIM software and ensure reconciling with POs in ProSave.
    • Manage and maintain the physical warehouse and TIM online warehouse.
    • Ensure timely monthly spot check, quarterly and bi-annual stock check and reconciliation.
    • Ensure all stock and assets purchased are entered in TIM and the Master Assets Register.
    • Ensure all program stock are released through TIM and accompanied with a waybill to point of usage.
    • Ensure BHs are informed about stock balances, expired, expiring SOF and other irregularities or discrepancy in TIM respectively.
    • Participate in procurement and distribution planning meetings and provide sufficient logistics input in planning
    • Support program teams with the distribution of program supplies to beneficiaries in line with SCI warehousing, inventory management and distribution guidelines.
    • Ensure adherence to SCI Warehousing and Inventory Management Manual and Toolkit.
    • Prepare and share warehouse stock reports with Program team on a monthly basis.

    Administration & Reports:

    • Maintain all logistic files in an organized, accurate and up to date manner
    • Line manage, coordinate, monitor and guide the work of the drivers, warehouse staff, casual laborers and any other logistics support by managing performance on an on-going basis
    • Produce logistics site report, vehicle and generator cost performance report.
    • Update Asset Register and send to country office every month.
    • Update the vehicle cost schedule and produce regular vehicle performance and cost reports and send to country office once per month.
    • Comply with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures with respect to child protection, code of conduct, fraud, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies
    • Work in close collaboration with the finance and administration departments to ensure effective operations and strong team spirit
    • Carry out any other tasks required by the line manager.

    Skills & Experience
    Administrative & General Skills:

    • Level of Education – Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics and Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Economics, Business Administration or related field.
    • Professional qualification in Logistics and Transport Management an added advantage.
    • Communication & Interpersonal Skill Level - Excellent
    • Language Requirements – English - Excellent
    • Level of IT Expertise Required - Good

    Experience Expectations:

    • Desired Number of Years Prior Experience in a Similar Role – 2.
    • Experience in procurement and logistics with INGO.
    • Experience in a relatively insecure field based environment.
