    WATSAN Technician

    Contract: 208 working hours per month with flexibility required

    Overview

    • MSF has been active in Katsina since February 2021 after carrying an exploratory mission that end up with an opening of the project under the Emergency-Cell.
    • Currently, MSF is running 1 ITFC (Inpatient Therapeutic Feeding Centre) in Katsina in the KofarSauri PHCC and 5 ATFC (Ambulatory Therapeutic Feeding Centre) including 4 in Jibia LGA (Magama, Daddara, GubiMagaria and Riko) and 1 in Katsina (KofarMarusa).
    • There is ongoing plan to implement additional ATFC in Mashi and Mani LGA.

    Main Purpose

    • Supporting the Watsan Supervisor in the implementation, monitoring, maintaining, and trouble-shooting of Water Hygiene Sanitation activities and infrastructure in the project according to MSF protocols, standards and procedures in order to improve health and living conditions of the target population.

    Job Description

    • Carrying out tasks directly related to the Watsan activities such as construction and maintenance of infrastructures in the project according to MSF protocols and standards concerning the operation of water supply, waste management and excreta disposal, hygiene and infection control.
    • Ensuring the cleaning and maintenance of the Watsan structures and when applicable, of the medical facilities.
    • Identifying, recruiting, training and supervising daily labourers or hygiene agents for Watsan activities
    • Informing the Watsan Supervisor of any difficulties, anomalies and problems that may affect the normal functioning of activities and tasks in his/her area of responsibility.
    • Assisting the Watsan Supervisor in Watsan data collection and reporting, as well as maintaining updated files and records of assigned project activities
    • Being responsible for equipment, tools, and consumables, verifying that they are safely used and maintained. Reporting to the supervisor any need of renewal and the weekly/monthly consumption.

    Requirements
    Education:

    • Technical Certification or proven background, desirable specialization in water and sanitation.

    Experience:

    • Previous experience in technical works.

    Languages:

    • Fluency in English (Read, Speak and Write), Hausa and Fulfulde (fluently speaking) required.

    Knowledge:

    • Computer literacy.

    Nurse Supervisor

    Context

    Main Purpose

    • Plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning nursing and the team associated, according to MSF values, policies and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care and the development of the plan of action.

    Job Description

    • Carry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing i.e. perform as a nurse or anaesthetist, whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience.
    • Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her speciality.
    • Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
    • Carry out and/or supervise the ( decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.)in his or her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
    • Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking.
    • Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point.

    Requirements

    • Education: Recognized Nurse Degree / Diploma
    • Bachelor’s in Science of Nursing Desirable
    • Valid NCN Registration and practicing Licence

    Experience:

    • Desirable 2 years of previous experience as Nurse Supervisor and previous experience in other NGO’s
    • Demonstrable experience in supervising and training others in a team setting

    Languages:

    • Fluency in English (Read, Speak and Write), Hausa and Fulfulde (fluently speaking) required.

    Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) Supervisor

    Job Description

    • Ensuring the day-to-day implementation and administration of assigned Watsan activities at project level, including but not limited to, water supply, excreta disposal, waste management, vector control, and dead bodies management
    • Ensuring that the MSF procedures and protocols are followed by the Watsan teams to guarantee the operational quality of the project.
    • Ensuring the maintenance and repair of technical equipment in the project to guarantee an adequate running of Watsan activities.
    • Ensuring the distribution of the materials and tools used in water treatment, hygiene and sanitation (e.g. physical organization and inventory of stocks, receiving and processing orders for water, sanitation and hygiene material, check that the amounts received are recorded, and check monthly consumptions, etc.);
    • Supporting the Watsan Manager in ensuring an appropriate emergency preparedness and response capacity (physical verification of stocks, contacts, transport means, staff training). Ensuring appropriate assistance to the project response team and if required, participating in emergency activities or exploratory visits
    • Supporting the Watsan Manager in the team planning (e.g. staff rosters and admin, HR processes, etc.) and informing and involving the Watsan Manager in case of any major management or technical issue, and providing all required reporting
    • Planning and supervising the HR processes (recruitment, training, performance evaluation, tasks definition and internal and external communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required for the activity
    • Participating in data collection and reporting as required.

    Requirements
    Education:

    • Technical Diploma, desirable specialization in water and sanitation.

    Experience:

    • Previous experience in technical works and organising of multiple activities, preferably within MSF or similar work environment.

    Languages:

    • Fluency in English (Read, Speak and Write), Hausa and Fulfulde (fluently speaking) required.

    Knowledge:

    • Computer literacy.

    Mechanic

    Contract: 208 working hours per month with flexibility required

    Main Purpose

    • Performing autonomously, complex / advanced servicing, maintenance and repair of MSF vehicles and other engines according to MSF standards and procedures, in order to ensure vehicles are in perfect running conditions.

    Job Description

    • Performing autonomously and ensuring, all necessary complex / advanced maintenance and repair of MSF vehicles and mechanical equipment to ensure they are in perfect condition for their use. This includes the following tasks :
      • Performing maintenance according to the instructions in the logbook, ensuring all type of services to all vehicles are done on time (i.e. mini A, medium B and full C, and special services referred in logbook when possible).
      • Testing all vehicles after each service is concluded and before it is handed back to its driver
      • Keeping record of vehicle’s driver remarks, and carrying out repairs if needed (vehicles and other mechanical equipment) and filling in service, repair or vehicle log book. Reporting to the line manager any problem related to MSF vehicles
      • In the case of a breakdown, making a diagnosis, informing the line manager and after approval carrying out any complex / advanced repairs needed.
      • Following up the validity of all documents (annual inspections, insurance or any other required documents)
      • Assisting in the briefing or training of drivers regarding vehicle services and maintenance
    • Managing the stock of consumable items, filling in the stock cards, carrying out physical stock inventories, executing orders necessary for renewing stock, avoiding any shortage
    • Responsible for the equipment and tools, including extinguishers, checking they are correctly and safely used, maintaining and renewing them when necessary and keeping the inventory updated.
    • Keeping working area clean and tidy.
    • Ensuring that all record sheets and books related to maintenance are always completed and preparing needed reports before and after any repair or required maintenance.

    Requirements
    Education:

    • Essential - Diploma in Mechanics or related studies.

    Experience:

    • Preferable - Previous working experience working with MSF or other NGOs
    • Demonstrable mechanical experience. (Minimum 2 years experience).

    Languages:

    • Fluency in English (Read, Speak and Write), Hausa and Fulfulde (fluently speaking) required.

    Knowledge:

    • Essential driving license for vehicles.
