Data Engineer at FoodCo Nigeria Limited

Principal Duties

• Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL, Java, Scala, Python, and Google ‘BigQuery’ technologies.
• Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture, Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
• Develop analytical tools and programs that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.
• Evaluate, recommend, and select data warehouse components, including hardware, database management systems, ETL (extract, transform, load) software, data mining tools, and metadata management tools.
• Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements, and work with stakeholders including the Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
• Create data tools for analytics and data science team members and work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems and deployment of machine learning algorithms / data products into production environments.

Qualifications/Requirements

• First degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field.
• Masters Degree in a relevant field is an advantage.
• 4+ years of successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets
• Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
• Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets.
• Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Experience building processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management and deploying machine learning models.
• Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
• Candidate should have experience using all relevant  software/tools

Knowledge, Skills and Competency Requirements

• Strong analytic skills related to working with structured and unstructured datasets.
• Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable ‘big data’ data stores.
• Digital savviness – driving the use of task and project management tools and software’s (Clickup, Basecamp, Office365, Asana, Trello).
• Excellent analytical, forecasting, planning and reporting skills.
• Excellent project management, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Commitment to the production of high-quality outputs and excellent customer service.
• Ability to work shifts, over weekends, and on holidays, as required.
