    Assistant Manager, Communications & Events (Office of the President)

    Job Description

    • The role of the position holder will be to establish a process for ensuring that all newsworthy information related to the activities of the President are documented using all required tools, communicated across all relevant media channels with internal and external stakeholders as may be required and stored/archived in such a way that the records can be easily accessed when required. 
    • The job holder functions as a key part of the Bank’s public information team, supporting relations with the media and ensuring effective communication of the Bank’s message based on the President’s activities, using such tools as press releases in print media, social media, and the Bank’s website, thought leadership articles and publications updates, client communications, and ensuring that the Bank’s brand image is always sustained.

    Responsibilities

    • Communication Planning: Developing a periodic communication plan e.g., quarterly, for the President based on the available schedule of activity to ensure that all communication and media related arrangements for activities in which the President is involved in are well planned, well executed and in line with required communication protocols.
    • Capturing of Presidential Activity: Develop and implement required processes and guidelines to ensure that all the President’s activities are captured using appropriate tools including photography, text, video and audio and that the tools used for this purpose facilitate ease of transmission of the related information for ease of communication.
    • Communication of Relevant Information: Prepare information about the President’s activities as captured for timely communication to relevant publics (internal and external) and media to ensure timeous publicity of major activities and events involving the President, to keep the public up to date about the President’s activities. This will include drafting and communicating instant messages on press releases for print media, taking appropriate follow-up actions to ensure appropriate publicity and analysing outcomes to ensure that the right levels of publicity are achieved and to participate in activities to promote media coverage (press conferences, interviews, press seminars and other special activities) related to the activities of the President. This will include provide effective and timely responses to public information inquiries about the President’s activities from the media.
    • Recommend appropriate information and communication tools for use in media and other communication activities; Participate in identifying communications content for dissemination to key constituencies while maintaining brand guidelines; Maintain and update media contact lists/databases; Ensure rapid and accurate information dissemination to the media; Act as a news desk officer.
    • Design, and produce digital branding and marketing materials for dissemination through multiple points of presence as well as executive-quality presentations.
    • Design and develop digital layouts, graphics, animation, and videos to support digital media communication and engagement of the President’s activities, including through the Bank’s website.
    • Design and implement Search Engine Optimization (SEO), social, search, and other related campaigns to publicise and communicate the President’s business activities.
    • Documenting & Archiving: In liaison with the Knowledge Management team, ensure that all information related to the President’s activities is filed and archived as appropriate for ease of access when required.
    • Writing of Memoirs: Where former Presidents are writing memoirs, the job holder is expected to support them by ensuring that they get access to the information they need in liaison with the knowledge management team.
    • Build Networks: Network with journalists, other media representatives, followers, and subscribers to media networks; Develop and sustain partnerships with internal and external partners for successful development and execution of Afreximbank’s media strategy; Monitor the media, analyse information and prepare reports in order to track outreach, engagement and growth of media coverage of the Bank in so far as the President’s activities are concerned.
    • Carry out any other duties as may be assigned by Management.

    Requirements
    Qualifications and Skills:

    • First Degree in Business or Marketing Communication, Digital Media, Journalism or related fields; Post Graduate Degree in the same or related fields from a recognized University or a relevant professional qualification in lieu.
    • Professional digital communications practice and experience of at least five (5) years, preferably at regional/international level. Experience in an agency or digital media firm and experience in visual design and communication is a huge advantage.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French and proficiency or good working knowledge of the Bank's other working languages (Arabic and Portuguese) is an added advantage.
    • Ability to communicate and function in a culturally diverse and change oriented setting and good knowledge of the African continent.
    • Willingness to travel extensively and to work long hours, with short deadlines, where required to achieve the Bank's objectives.
    • Demonstrated ability to build and nurture relationships with internal and external counterparties to attain goals.
    • Demonstrated Proficiency in graphic design software including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and other visual design tools. Proficiency in front-end development web programming languages such as HTML and CSS, JQuery, and JavaScript is an asset.
    • Hands on experience with the Google Suite of Solutions (AdWords, Display Network, Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics etc), Facebook Business Manager, MailChimp (or other email platforms).
    • Experience in designing and executing campaigns on Facebook, Linkedln, Instagram, Twitter and other relevant social media platforms.
    • Experience maintaining website and social media platforms and developing a range of marketing materials/content for community or business audiences.

    Senior Manager, Communications and Events (Strategic Corporate Communications)

    Responsibilities

    • Responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and leading the activities of the Strategic Communications and Marketing Management unit. The Senior Manager will be responsible for two sub-units; Product Management, Marketing Support & delivery of the overall strategic measures of the department. 
    • The Senior Manager will support the development and implementation of strategies and plans to support the Bank’s communication process with external and internal stakeholders.
    • Organize and lead established day-to-day management of the Bank’s strategic communications, product and marketing management processes in line with agreed objectives, policies and procedures in line with the Bank’s strategic plans;
    • Ensure the continuous application of required knowledge and skills and process improvements in the implementation of the Bank’s Communications Strategy and systems and providing leadership in proposing and implementing new ones as required. As part of this process, lead and have oversight responsibility for the product Management supporting the commercialization of innovation streams, marketing management in support of client relations at regional branch level, as well as marketing support to subsidiaries and special initiatives, and overall strategic communications in furtherance of the bank’s mission 
    • Demonstrate leadership ability and a teamwork orientation by successfully leading all matters related to the communications, public relations and events management processes at all the Bank’s locations;
    • Be a lead member of the Communications and events team, advising the Senior Management on all matters related to communications and events management;
    • Lead the department's team to ensure constant review of the Bank's communication and branding strategies and ensuring that they are effective in promoting the Bank's policies, programmes and interventions the leading financial development institution in Africa;

    • Provide advice and assistance required for formulating Bank policies and plans on the design, implementation and dissemination of Bank information products and coordinate the publishing and distribution services for printed and electronic Bank publications; 
    • Implement the Bank's information disclosure policy and ensure that information about the Bank reaches its various publics through appropriate channels.

    Requirements
    Qualifications and Skills:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, or other disciplines relevant to the position.
    • Candidates must also hold at least one Postgraduate Degree from a reputable University in the relevant discipline or a relevant professional qualification in lieu;
    • Sound experience of at least 10 years with a leading organisation, preferably international, and demonstrated experience in communications strategy development and implementation, brand management and events management;

    Manager, Strategic & Business Planning

    Responsibilities

    • The role holder will be responsible for providing professional input to the Bank’s strategic planning process, working with various cross-functional teams to identify, evaluate and analyze evolving strategic priorities, setting strategic objectives and goals, identifying instruments for their attainment as well as monitoring and evaluation of chosen strategy.

    • Provide professional input into the Bank wide annual business planning and budgeting process through distilling the Bank’s strategic goals into annual activity plans and advising senior management on the most efficient allocation of the tasks for respective departments and units.
    • Assist to communicate the Bank’s long term and annual business plan as approved by the Board of Directors to all staff and put in place monitoring and reporting mechanisms for the benefit of Senior management and staff members.

    Deputy Chief Economist

    Responsibilities

    • The role of the position holder will be to participate in the Bank's research and economic analysis activities especially in trade development and financial economics. The role will also include conducting sector and country studies as well as preparing Bank's various reports for Senior Management, the Board, and shareholders.  
    • The position holder is also expected to support ongoing efforts to develop and maintain, for knowledge management purposes, good working relationships with other UN, multilateral, and bilateral organizations – including specialized agencies, the UN’s Economic Commissions, the African Union and its Commissions, International Financial Institutions – and engage with academia and relevant bodies/think tanks in member states to further enhance the Bank’s leadership as a centre of excellence for trade related research and information generation.  
    • Strategic policy advice: Working with the CE to oversee and supervise the enhancement of research methodology in the preparation of required studies in the areas of world trade, trade finance and economic issues important to Africa as well as their policy and business implications;
    • Intellectual leadership in applied research and policy development: Managing the monitoring and collation of key economic data covering the globe, major trading regions and Africa into suitably organized information to inform and guide the Bank’s policies and operations;
    • Cutting-Edge Research: Supporting the conduct of cutting-edge research in economics, ranging from theoretical methodological issues to applied economics touching on trade development and financial issues covering sectors such as commodities, agriculture, manufacturing, and services as well as payments. Also, developing and managing an Exchange rate Mechanism to support the implementation of the pan African Payments and Settlement System;
    • Internal Research Reports: Supporting the CE in the production of regular reports which monitor developments in global trade and trade finance as well as the Bank’s key markets and products, risk-based sector and country reports and providing timely analyses on their likely impact on the African economy and the Bank’s operations;
    • Internal Stakeholder Engagement: Coordinating engagement and collaboration between the Research Department and other Departments, including Origination Departments in their efforts to enhance the Bank’s strategic and business activities to ensure the achievement of its mandate;
    • Collaborating with key external partners: Helping the CE in the management of the relationship with relevant UN system organizations, International Financial Institutions, and other multilateral and bilateral organizations, academia, and the private sector to advance the trade development agenda;
    • Shaping African trade development policy: strengthening the capacity of the network of economists, bankers and other trade experts from various African multilaterals, banks, trade agencies, academia, and other stakeholders, through organizing strategic conferences, symposia, and workshops to draw on external expertise, advocate on key trade development issues, and contribute to African and global trade policy debates;
    • Research Publications: Managing the publication and dissemination of the Bank’s trade-related publications, research papers, and journals (including the Journal of African Trade, CIAT and Working Paper Series), and monitoring their development impact; 
    • Support to Risk Management Modelling: Providing support to the overall operational efficiency and risk management framework of the Bank, including putting in place and managing a framework for estimating overall expected credit losses on an ongoing basis
    • Database Management: Ensure that the overall framework for database management is in place and is well managed and monitored
    • Key Initiatives: Work with relevant departments to support key enterprise initiatives e.g. research sabbatical programme, the Centre for AfCFTA Studies etc.
    • Any other duties as may be assigned by Senior Management.    

    Requirements
    Qualifications and Skills:

    • PhD or equivalent in Economics or other related field from a recognized University; 
    • Sound experience of at least 12 years as a Research, Economist, Trade Economist or similar role, preferably in the financial services industry, with experience in trade and development economics. Evidence of publications in scholarly journals will be required; 
    • Demonstrated experience in preparing and presenting research papers for use by the financial services industry and an expert understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods, especially econometrics and operations research;
    • Demonstrated experience in development impact analysis and a demonstrated interest and understanding of the political economy of trade, development, money/payment systems and international finance;
    • Ability to communicate and function in a culturally diverse and change oriented setting with good knowledge of research practices in Africa; 
    • Ability to interact with senior officials of international agencies, multilaterals, banks, corporates, and governments and to present well researched information trade related issues to the Bank's Senior Management and the Board of Directors and deep knowledge and experience of geoeconomics and geostrategy;  
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of French will be a distinct advantage and the Bank's other working languages (Arabic and Portuguese) a plus;
    • Keen knowledge of African interests and history and Intellectual strength to enhance ability to shape global debate and African development narrative;
    • Demonstrated diplomatic skills to globally advance the African development agenda while helping the Bank to maintain its reputation as a pan African force for the advancement of African citizens;
    • Knowledge of broad analytical techniques, such as statistics, econometrics, as well as mathematical and operations research tools. In particular, the ability to analyse and draw reasonable inferences from the analyses of financial and economic data;
