Mearns began her career in public relations at Madison Square Garden and quickly moved on to a role as an International Media Liaison for the Men's International Professional Tennis Tour (now the ATP Tour). There, she traveled 35 weeks a year generating media for the world's top men's tennis professionals. Later Mearns was selected by Ivan Lendl, then the #1 tennis player in the world, to help establish his start-up event marketing firm.
In 1986, Mearns moved to Ohlmeyer Communications (which evolved into International Sports and Entertainment Strategies (ISES) and was eventually acquired by Clarion Performance Properties) where she negotiated and managed sports and entertainment sponsorships for clients including IBM, Nabisco, Haagen-Dazs and Lufthansa German Airlines. She ultimately rose to become a partner of the 40-person agency.
After working with Ohlmeyer, Mearns spent four years with Cyrk, Inc., a $700M promotional marketing company, where she developed and managed merchandising programs, including MasterCard International's World Cup Soccer campaign and NASCAR's 50th Anniversary.
Building on her strong marketing background, a successful career in recruitment and a vision to provide a unique alternative to traditional executive recruiting firms, Jennifer Proud Mearns founded JPM Consulting Services in 2003. JPM Consulting provides executive recruiting, talent acquisition, talent assessment and general business consulting services to a wide variety of clients. Recent clients include Gatorade, KeyBank, Moen, IMAGINiT Technologies, CID (VC firm), Executive Connections (a boutique recruiting firm specializing in brand marketing, direct marketing/CRM and financial services) and Markt & Markworth (a boutique executive recruiting firm).
Mearns holds a B.S. from Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island, where she served for nine years on the Board of Trustees, including three years as Vice Chair. She now lives in Ft. Thomas, KY, with her husband, Geoff, and their five children. While living in Shaker Heights, OH, she served as Vice President of the Shaker Heights City Schools Board of Education and also served as Vice Chair of the board of The Fund for the Future of Shaker Heights, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to maintaining community diversity and neighborhood vibrancy through pro-integrative loan and grant programs.
