    Request for Proposal: Baseline Survey for Prevalence and Incidence of Obstetric Fistula in Katsina and the FCT Nigeria

    The Comprehensive and Inclusive Women’s Health Project in Nigeria is a three-year project that is being funded by Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade through CBM Australia, and implemented by the Survive Fistula Healthcare  (SFHF). This project is a scale-up of the pilot that was conducted from January-December 2019. The Comprehensive and Inclusive Women’s Health Project commenced in January 2020 and is expected to end in December 2022.

    SFHF under the CIWHIN project is planning to conduct a baseline fistula survey in project supported states with the following goals:

    • To seeks to establish baseline estimates of prevalence and incidence of obstetric fistula among women of reproductive age including women with disabilities in the FCT and Katsina State.
    • To assess the needs within the healthcare system and socio-cultural factors that militate against access of women and girls with fistula, including women and girls with disabilities to accessing existing maternal health, sexual and reproductive health, and mental health services in the FCT and Katsina State.

    The specific objectives of the surveys are to determine:

    • Proportion of target population with knowledge of obstetric fistula
    • Proportion of the target population with history of urine and or faecal incontinence that is due to genital fistula
    • Proportion of women including those with other forms of disabilities with history of fistula among the target population 
    • Most common barriers to accessing essential and emergency obstetric care including C-section among women of reproductive age group, including women with disabilities.
    • Barriers to accessing fistula treatment for women and girls with fistula
    • Common psychological and social consequences of fistula in identified clients
    • Proportion of women and girls with disabilities actively involved in promotion of sexual and reproductive health services in their communities.
    • Extent of inclusion of the rights and needs of women and girls with disabilities into state and local government sexual and reproductive health plans and programmes.

    Method of Application
