Role overview: Marketing Consultant (Nigeria)
We are a small, ambitious team, intent on building a world-class marketing engine to bring the Elephant brand to life, drive demand within the market, and amplify the voice of our customers.
We are looking for a Marketing Consultant with 4+ years experience in marketing at high-growth, fast-paced organisations, preferably in healthcare or insurance, and/or who is familiar with selling into the public sector within Nigeria. The role will report directly to the VP Marketing (based in the UK) and work hand-in-hand with the Nigeria-based Sales & Ops teams plus our PR agency to support our launch in Abuja.
Our ideal candidate will have a clear POV on the marketing strategies that will be most successful in Nigeria, and be comfortable with on-the-ground research & execution. A successful candidate would be a high-performing marketing generalist who deeply understands the Nigerian market, specifically in Abuja, and be comfortable communicating findings to all cross-functional stakeholders.
What you’ll do:
- Report directly to the VP Marketing, working closely to create & execute the Elephant marketing strategy in Abuja and drive insurance registrations for FHIS (the FCT state-sponsored insurance scheme) as part of our co-marketing efforts
- Work closely with in-country team in Nigeria to conduct field research eg. deeply understanding the end-to-end insurance registration process, including operational pain points, current FHIS marketing efforts and any blockers that prohibit seamless enrolment
- Be comfortable speaking to patients within healthcare facilities to understand why they would or would not purchase insurance & report findings back to the UK-based marketing team
- Identify marketing channels & execute media buys and/or organic opportunities that would help drive enrolment and/or create a faster registration experience, eg radio, TV, OOH, in-clinic signage, digital marketing
- Source & project manage local production partners and/or designers to deliver best-in-class, localised B2C marketing materials
- Handle all localisation efforts, making sure external marketing collateral is translated into appropriate local languages (eg Yoruba) and meticulously quality-checked
- Act as a guardian of the brand, ensuring that all materials and collateral produced in-market uphold and elevate Elephant’s brand across all channels
- Source relevant local community events where patient sensitisation would be beneficial; suggest what kind of registration and/or sensitisation presences should be in attendance
- Liaise with Elephant’s local PR agency, packaging together comms materials to support common goal of promoting Elephant’s partnership with FHIS and driving registrations
- Conduct additional user research, visiting clinics alongside our Ops team in order to deeply understand the patient and frontline user experience; advise on creative ways to improve common pain points
- Lead end-to-end project management for all local marketing activity; this includes strong organisational skills, with proven success making detailed plans, managing timing and contributing to budget tracking
- Be a self-starter who is comfortable working independently
Required skills, experience and attributes:

Essential:
- 4+ years experience in marketing at high-growth, fast-paced organisations, preferably in healthcare, insurance, or is familiar with selling into the public sector within Nigeria.
- Strong business acumen and industry expertise in B2C marketing to Nigerian audiences, specifically in Abuja
- Experience with market research and/or gathering customer insights via on-the-ground investigation, eg is willing to go directly to the source to find accurate information
- Team player who is willing to be in the weeds and get things done, but can also think strategically and input into business plans
- Motivated self-starter with excellent communication and organisation skills, with strong attention to detail
- Comfortable managing several workstreams simultaneously while maintaining grace under pressure
- Both creative and analytical skills, being able to think outside the box and suggest solutions to complex problems in the healthcare ecosystem
- Experience creating brand and marketing collateral, ideally with B2C campaign experience
- Must be comfortable working in Google Slides, Docs and/or PowerPoint, Word to create slide decks or written documents
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; comfortable speaking with key stakeholders internally and externally
- Be kind, candid and good humoured with strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage relationships inside and outside of the business
Desired:
- B.A. in Business, Marketing, or a related field or equivalent work experience
- Nigerian business experience, either working with or in healthcare, insurance, or related industry
- Experience working with dispersed, International workforce across time zones
- Experience in a client-facing role, requiring excellent presentation skills
- A strong network of local marketing professionals and/or support, including local agencies, freelancers, photographers, or videographers
- The ability to be agile and ruthlessly prioritise competing initiatives
- Multilingual in Yoruba, Hausa, or Ibo

The starting pay is ₦153,00 - 300,000 per month depending on experience.
