Call for Expression of Interest EOI

(Donors & Partners: Targeted "people affected with Banditry" in Nigeria)

JHSociety is a Nigeria based registered non-government entity, whose objective is the betterment of the society by undertaking charity/Humanitarian response in Nigeria. We plan and carry out boots-on-the-ground projects to accomplish our objectives at targeted community. This requires a great deal of careful planning, communication, and local involvement for each project. Our goal is providing humanitarian response/services to vulnerable communities in Nigeria and our Board of Trustees are group of professionals with over 10years past experience working for UN organizations and International NGOs who came together to form this reputable organization.

Banditry violence has affected populations living in Nigeria’s Zamfara, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi and Katsina states in the Northwest, Benue and Niger States in the North Central.  About 21 million people living in these states have been exposed to insecurity from activities of bandits. Unconnected to the Boko Haram insurgency in the Northeast, the banditry violence began as a farmer/herder conflict in 2011 and intensified between 2017 to 2018 to include cattle rustling, kidnapping for ransom, sexual violence and killings. The violence has affected about 35 out of 92 local government areas in the 4 states. The discovery of gold mines and the activities of illegal miners competing for the control of gold reserves have served to further intensify the existence and activities of armed groups in the northwest.

According to a 2019 report issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Nigerian Government, over 200,000 persons were internally displaced in several communities of Zamfara, Katsina and Sokoto States between January-August 2019. Majority of these IDPs were women, children and the elderly taking refuge in neighbouring Republic of Niger, Cameroun and Chad. Reports obtained from the Zamfara State Government revealed that banditry led to an estimated 22,000 widows and 44, 000 orphans in Zamfara State since 2011. Our organization is determined to champion the humanitarian response to communities affected by banditries in Nigeria to preventing victims of banditry from joining the act of banditry by providing necessary support and sensitization that will support early recovery for banditry victims.

This call is to maximize the chances of success in this activity, the program will as far as possible couple livelihoods interventions with food assistance to meet basic food needs and many other activities meeting the basic humanitarian needs after a comprehensive baseline assessment. Moreover, our partnership will implement complementary activities such as training and awareness raising sessions to support target households. Programme activities will gradually scale down and phase out so that by the end of the projects, communities have the skills and resources needed to be more resilient to shocks and crises in the medium and long term. Our partnership will work in coordination with local partners such as local technical and administrative structures and will collaborate closely with them so they can provide technical support during programme implementation and continued follow-up after the programme ends.
