  • Business Development Coordinator

    Due to internal expansion and re-structuring, our client, an indigenous Company with holdings in Maritime, Agriculture, Oil & Gas is looking for an ambitious and energetic generalist Business Development Coordinator to work with their young and vibrant team.

    Directly Reports To:     Managing Director

    Supervises:                    Junior officer


    The Business Development Coordinator (BDC) will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of business objectives among the Company’s sales, marketing, and business development. The preferred personnel will take over a mix of existing accounts and grow new ones.


    The core duties and responsibilities of the Business Development Coordinator are as follows:

    • Maintain current client relationships, identifying areas for potential clients and contacting them to establish business relationships and arrange meetings.
    • Ensure prequalification of the Company with existing and potential customers, government agencies to enable Company to be well positioned to bid for projects within its sphere of capabilities’
    • Carry out risk identification, profit potential and analysis for each business target.
    • Manage tender submissions, including liaison with various Departments within the company on submission of bid documents.
    • Promote the company businesses and explore new business opportunities in the related markets.
    • Formulate and implement the business development strategies and establish objectives in close coordination with the Managing Director.
    • Create, develop, and maintain a professional and strong business relationship with key decision-makers among potential clients, relevant government departments, contractors, and consultants in the Region.
    • Researching the latest in the various business industries to find new opportunities, while creating new opportunities to expand business.
    • Attending conferences, meetings, and industry on behalf of the Company.
    • Ensuring set strategic growth plans are implemented and met.
    • Developing and pursing new business opportunities for the Company in the Petroleum, Agricultural and Maritime sectors.
    • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with regulatory bodies to ensure that the Company operates in-line with government laws, regulations, and best practices.
    • Define clear strategies and schedules for achieving set targets.
    • Provide inputs to management based on market information to enable the Company to develop capabilities in areas that will give it strategic leverage for future projects.
    • Gather and analyse market intelligence for new projects and opportunities.
    • Understand customer needs and assist in the development of project solutions that satisfy those requirements and provide new opportunities for the Company.


    Our ideal candidate should have the following competencies:

    • Must have good understanding of the maritime, oil & gas and agricultural industries within Nigeria and globally.
    • Should have a working knowledge of the NIPEX and NOGIC portals as well as their requirements.
    • Must be proficient with bid preparation and submission.
    • Ability to hold/organize quality presentations and training.
    • Should be proficient in business analysis, strategy development and execution.
    • Excellent skills in teamwork, leadership, and communication.
    • Aggressive strategist with proven ability to close deals via strong and persuasive closing skills.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Excellent command of MS Office and applicable software.
    • Intermediate knowledge and skills in financial analysis.
    • Exceptional market and customer awareness and presentation skills.
    • Legal and commercial skills to be able to deal with contractual and financial conditions in contracts and tenders.
    • Excellent networking skills.


    • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, sales, or related field. A master’s in business administration (MBA) or related field is an added advantage.
    • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in business development function. Experience in Oil & Gas, Agriculture and Marine sectors, including international experience dealing with global clients within the stated sectors is an added advantage.
    • Strong communication skills and IT fluency.
    • Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task.
    • Excellent organizational skills.
