    Apprentice Agricultural Economist

     Job Description

    Based in: Ogudu, Lagos, Nigeria

    Duration: 12 months’ placement - permanent

    Placement Overview

    LAGOS RESIDENTS ONLY: This is an excellent opportunity for a young person to support a team of Agricultural Economists in an Apprenticeship role. The Apprentice will learn to examine data and statistics to identify trends and make predictions for the agricultural market. By the end of the Apprenticeship placement, the Apprentice will be conversant in a variety of agricultural sectors and in performing research and analysis.

    Job Description

    Agricultural Economists employ principles and concepts of economics to learn more about the supply and demand of goods and services in the agricultural sector. This includes analysis of production, consumption, and distribution. Although an Agricultural Economist chooses an area of expertise; in your role as an Apprentice, you will be exposed to all areas, such as crop and livestock sciences, environmental economics, policy analysis, agribusiness, food safety, international trade, rural development, and marketing systems.

    In your role, you will typically work with agricultural data and statistics in an office setting, and you will be required to travel as part of a research team to collect information.

    Duties

    As an Apprentice Agricultural Economists, you will learn to examine data to determine patterns and trends in economic activity. You will also conduct research to collect data and market samples. You will learn how to use the predictions obtained from your research to inform, influence, and improve the business decisions of clients and agricultural organisations.

    Person Specification

    • Ideal client will be someone in their 20’s who is willing to be flexible in the role with:
    • Educated to Degree Agriculture Major Favourable
    • Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to manage own workload effectively
    • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing at all levels of the organisation
    • Excellent skills in research and reporting on findings
    • Able to analyse and interpret statistical information
    • Computer literate
    • Management and Supervision
    • You will be working under the guidance and supervision of an experienced member of staff. Apprentice9ja! will also support you throughout your Apprenticeship.

    Working Week

    40 hours a week, Monday to Friday 9-5

    Description of Employer

    Placement is for a fully-fledged Agricultural market and professional service firm offering Agro-based information and consulting service to all direct and indirect participants of the Agricultural sector.

    Travel

    You will be required to travel interstate at short notice.
