    Community Safety Planning Trainer Consultant

    Location: Yola, Adamawa

    Job Description

    • We are currently looking for a highly qualified Trainer for a short consultancy, in order to support our Armed Violence Reduction Manager in carrying out a Community Safety Planning training.

    About the Consultancy

    • DRC-DDG started operating in Nigeria in 2015, implementing a combination of emergency, livelihood, WASH, protection and mine risk education programmes.
    • DRC-DDG currently has offices in Abuja, Yola, Mubi, Maiduguri and Damaturu, with more than 150 staff members. In 2016, DRC/DDG commenced an EU-funded programme that seeks to promote stability and socio-economic recovery in Borno and Adamawa states, under which Armed Violence Reduction (AVR) activities were introduced.

    The programme focuses on four key programmatic axes:

    • Promoting socio-economic recovery and sustainable livelihoods
    • Addressing the needs of youth at affected by displacement and at risk of criminality and radicalisation
    • Enhancing community protection and conflict mediation capacities
    • Reducing the risks associated with mines/explosive remnants of war (ERW)

    Responsibilities
    Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

    • Review DRC-DDG’s participant trainers’ manuals on Community Safety Planning Process, in collaboration with DDG AVR Manager.
    • Submit a training report, including substantive feedback on the CSP process as they would apply in Nigeria
    • Support AVR Manager to develop and conduct five (5) days of training on the current CSP Process with project staff, including practical sessions
    • Based on inputs from AVR Manager and Nigeria team and taking into consideration relevant contextual aspects, revise material that will be used during the trainings (exercise sheets, handouts, etc.) in the Nigeria programme.
    • Consult and harmonize DDG’s approaches with other stakeholders, other humanitarian partners and relevant actors, should be sought wherever relevant.
    • Provide DDG with a draft programming plan (with tangible activities) as developed in-country with AVR Manager

    About you

    • To be successful in this role we expect you to will be familiar with community planning processesm particularly DDG methodology, have extensive training experience and have a knowledge and experience working in a West African context.
    • All employees should master DRC's core competencies: Communicating, Taking the lead, Collaborating, Striving for excellence and Demonstrating integrity.

    Qualifications
    Required:

    • Postgraduate qualification in Conflict prevention, International relations, African Studies, Peace studies, Political science or related field
    • Minimum one previous experience working with an INGO involved in Armed Violence Reduction
    • Experience in Community safety training, knowledge of the Community Safety Planning Process within DDG
    • Proven record of training, mentoring and developing the capacity of staff in the fields of safety and peacebulding
    • Experience of working in challenging and insecure environments
    • Fluency in written and spoken English

    Desirable:

    • Proven experience in developing training material
    • Knowledge of the context of Northeast Nigeria
    • Proven record of training, mentoring and developing the capacity of staff in the fields of safety and peacebulding
    • Experience working in diverse and cross-cultural and insecure context

    We offer

    • Contract length: 9 days consultancy
    • Level: Consultancy fees based on offers received
    • Designation of Duty Station: Yola, Adamawa state (Northeast Nigeria) with possible travels to Mubi (Adamawa) and Maiduguri (Borno)
    • Start date: 18 February 2018

    DRC-DDG will provide the following:

    • Guidance to the consultant on the stakeholders and key areas to be visited
    • Consultancy fees at a mutually agreed rate
    • Flight to and from place of departure to Abuja d) Travels to field locations, as well as between field offices and in the field as needed.
    • Accommodation will be arranged by DRC - unless agreed otherwise. The consultant will stay at DRC-DDG’s guesthouse in the different locations visited.
    • Support in visa processing
