Analyst Database Administrator at Vic Lawrence and Associates Limited - VLA

JOB OBJECTIVE(S)
Provide technical expertise in the areas of application operations
Contribute to maintenance and operational support of the applications and  processing according to the strategic guidelines, technology processes and needs in all areas, in order to keep running the services provided by IT and in accordance with the institutional objectives

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist with development and configuration of infrastructure from conceptualization through stabilization
• Work with team lead to provide  technical direction in the area of requirement definition, planning, coordination, programming, and implementation of databases
• Ensure the service availability of all systems databases
• Work with team lead to ensure all databases are well tuned for effective performance
• Work with team lead who is responsible for management, configuration and administration of databases in all environments (production, test, QA, development, etc.)
• Perform database configuration and administration, event, fault and performance management
• Perform maintenance and support of the databases
• Provide support to all environments (production, test, QA, development, etc.)
• Perform routine infrastructure analysis, and evaluation on resource requirements necessary to maintain and/or expand service levels
• Fulfil service requests and perform routine maintenance and support activities
• Work with team lead to perform backup and recovery activities of information and computer services, in order to guarantee the operations in case of disaster
•  Proactively monitor database activity and usage and provide warnings when these reach critical thresholds

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

• Performance of infrastructure hardware and software
• Proactive  monitoring of applications and infrastructure (timeliness in identifying potential problems before they cause outages)
• Average hours of downtime & non-availability of IT services in case of failure & Disaster
• Percentage of incidents/problems due to capacity and performance shortages
• Frequency of repeated quality audit exceptions
• Percentage of overdue incidents and problems
• Recovery time during planned and unplanned outages
• Number of business requirements fulfilled

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
Minimum of a first degree or its equivalent in a IT related discipline

Experience
Post NYSC

KEY COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge

• Working knowledge of infrastructure design, implementation and operations
• Working knowledge of infrastructure and service delivery
• Working understanding of service management tools for event management, provisioning and monitoring
• Good knowledge of enterprise applications systems such as Finacle 10, Oracle ERP, etc.
• Proficient knowledge of server architecture
• Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with business stakeholders
• Good conflict management skills
• Creative, results-oriented and  analytical with strong problem-solving capability
