    Child Safeguarding

    • Level 3- The responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with children or young people and, in the overseas context all posts are considered to be level 3 posts in view of potential situations which may allow staff unsupervised access to vulnerable children and young people.

    Role Purpose

    • The Director of Programs (DOP) will be responsible for the technical content of service delivery encompassing OVC services in the technical areas – household economic strengthening, education support, child protection, social/ behavior change communication, case finding, referrals to treatment including ART, and viral load monitoring services within the community setting
    • S/he will provide technical expertise in high-impact OVC and HIV/AIDS services and their integration into established service delivery systems at different levels of care
    • The DOP will provide technical support to project staff, as well as contribute to documenting and reporting.
    • This position is contingent on the issuance of USAID funding and the selection of applicants is subject to USAID approval.

    Key Areas of Accountability:

    • Provide technical and programmatic leadership for OVC care and support service delivery for targeted households.
    • Strengthen the linkages between the community-based OVC care activities and health facilities providing HIV care and treatment towards ensuring a continuum of care.
    • Support the strengthening of the capacity of implementing CSOs in the area of HIV prevention awareness creation, community mobilization for HIV counselling and testing, PMTCT and Early Infant Diagnosis (EID), improving referral and counter-referral systems between communities and facilities.
    • Support the implementation of evidence-based interventions aimed at addressing HIV risk behaviours, HIV transmission, and gender-based violence with a focus on adolescent girls and young female caregivers.
    • Coordinate and maintain close liaison with project partners and with relevant stakeholders in Kano state.
    • Conduct periodic technical monitoring of the ICHSSA Project, identifying successes, and using lessons learned.
    • Coordinate the development of monthly, quarterly and annual work plans.
    • Prepares, collates and submits periodic reports to the Deputy Chief of Party on Project activities.
    • Comply with the requirements of Save the Children’s child protection policies; comply strictly with security procedures and other staff policies.

    Place of Work:

    • The post will be based in Kano and will require about 50-75% of travel within the state, and quarterly travel to Abuja

    Skills & Experience
    Essential:

    • Master's Degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Social Work, or Business Administration with a focus on Public Health, Social Sciences or related field.
    • Minimum 8 years of professional work experience in the field of Public Health and HIV. This should be inclusive of a minimum of 5 years of experience in designing and managing USAID-funded OVC programme activities including planning, implementation, data use, monitoring and reporting
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with government and civil society partners and communities as well as transfer knowledge to diverse audiences through workshops, training and meetings using participatory methods and adult learning principles.
    • Proven leadership and inter-personal skills for effective teamwork; as well as the ability to work independently on a frequent basis, taking initiative, managing a variety of activities concurrently, and delivering outputs on schedule.
    • Demonstrated experience providing technical assistance to both local NGO and CBO working with OVC beneficiaries that lead to improved programming and quality results; experience providing technical assistance remotely is a plus
    • Experience with PEFAR Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting (MER) indicators and reporting of activities
    • Good knowledge of Nigeria’s Standard Operating Procedures for Case Management within OVC Programming, Better Parenting Curriculum, and other relevant polices and guidance related to service delivery for OVC.
    • Excellent English oral and written communication skills required, and working knowledge of Hausa language.
    • Excellent analytic, organizational and computer skills; skilled in MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Experience with SharePoint a plus.
