    Consultancy: Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus Expert/Trainer

    Maiduguri, Nigeria

    Position Summary

    Under the Community Reconciliation and Resilience Building Project, Search is seeking to contract an expert/trainer to facilitate a training of actors on the humanitarian-development-peace nexus in Borno state, Nigeria. The training will take place last week of July 2019 in Maiduguri, Borno state. The candidate together with the Project Management Team will plan the agenda for the training and come up with possible options for the operationalizing the nexus in the context of North East Nigeria. 

     Roles and Responsibilities

    • Availability for planning meetings with key humanitarian-development-peacebuilding actors in Borno state. 
    • Conduct a pre-training needs assessment with humanitarian-development-peace nexus actors in Borno state. 
    • Develop toolkit and curriculum covering core concepts for the training of HDP actors in Borno state
    • Facilitate joint analysis of the issues in which to achieve HDP Nexus implementation and be able to plan through in-depth and how to apply that. 
    • Develop and review tools that can assist in practical implementation of the HDP nexus
    • Provide concrete case studies that can help deepen practical understanding of the HDP and how to apply same in the field. 
    • Develop and provide an HDP toolkit that is customized for the context of the North East of Nigeria
    • Provide a post program and training report which should include set of recommendations

    As the job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key responsibilities. 

    Expected Outcomes

    It is expected that the training will lead to the following critical outcomes:

    • Lead to a shared understanding of the H-D-P Nexus amongst actors in Borno state
    • Increased capacity of H-D-P actors in operationalizing the nexus in Borno state
    • Development of practical tool kits in operationalizing the nexus

     Deliverables and Timelines 

    • Develop and review tools that can assist in practical implementation of the HDP nexus. Timeline is 2 days from July 24, 2019
    • Facilitate training pre-planning meeting with key stakeholders. Timeline is 1 day i.e. July 26, 2019

    • Facilitate training of H-D-P actors. Timeline is 3 days from July 30, 2019

    • Submit 1 trainer’s report. Timeline is 3 days from August 5, 2019

     Terms of Consultancy

    • This consultancy will last for seven (9) days, from July 24 - August 5 in Maiduguri.
    • SFCG will provide transportation and accommodation during the training duration
    • SFCG will withhold 5% of the consultancy fees and remit the amount to relevant tax authorities as per the provisions of the Nigerian law. Please provide your Tax Identification Number (TIN) to facilitate this process if you are in agreement with our terms of reference. The consultant is not entitled to any fringe benefits from SFCG, including but not limited to sick leave, health or life insurance and pension plan. 

     Qualifications

      Education

    • Minimum of Master’s degree in conflict and peace-building studies, international relations, political sciences or related fields;

     Required Experience

    • A minimum of five years of professional experience in Conflict analysis, Conflict sensitivity, Policy development and planning;
    • Experienced in leading and facilitating training of different actors 
    • A minimum of 5 years experience in multitrack dialogue facilitation
    • Experience in engaging a variety of different actors in the humanitarian-development-peace nexus. 
    • Experience of partnership development and management
    • Experience of working in conflict-prone areas in Africa or Nigeria
    • Experience in both development and humanitarian contexts is considered as an added advantage

    Other Relevant Requirements

    • Deep understanding of the new way of working, humanitarian-development-peace nexus
    • Demonstrated skills of using different conflict analysis frameworks;
    • Excellent analytical and writing skills;
    • Excellent working knowledge in English
    • Attitude for team work and good leadership skill
    • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace
