    Protection Assistant

    Protection Assistant - Maiduguri 
    Protection Assistant (Nigerian Nationals Only) - Norwegian Refugee Council

    NRC is looking for a Protection Assistant for our Area Office in Maiduguri, Borno State in Northern Nigeria. The purpose of the Protection Assistant is the implementation of protection activities, and ensuring that protection is mainstreamed across all NRC programme activities in all NRC Area & Field Office 
    Locations in Borno State and other states in the North East where NRC has its interventions 

    NRC initiated country operations in Nigeria in June 2015, in order to respond to the critical and increasing needs in the country. NRC currently has a full team based in Maiduguri and a coordination office in Abuja. NRC is currently providing services across various sectors namely; Shelter and Non-Food Items (NFI); Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion (WASH); Food Security; Education; and Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) in order to address identified humanitarian needs.

    The Protection Assistant reports to the Protection Officer

    Job description

    • Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
    • Involve and inform communities and community leaders about the activities
    • Investigate and facilitate introduction of new technology, method and approaches in order to improve the quality of the activities
    • Responsible for the implementation of protection activities in the field – protection analysis, data collection, sensitization and monitoring of protection issues and referrals.
    • Carry out the selection of project beneficiaries
    • Data collection for project monitoring and evaluation.
    • Coordinate the protection activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets and plans
    • Build strong working relationships with mandated and specialized protection actors
    • Build capacity of NRC programme and support teams on protection safe programming by conducting regular awareness raising sessions, inductions and support Core Protection training follow up.
    • Facilitate referral of protection issues to relevant service providers.
    • Prepare weekly progress reports and other documents as required

    Qualifications

    • Experience from working in a protection role in an emergency or protracted crises settings
    • University degree in related field
    • Documented results related to position's responsibilities
    • Proficiency in English and Hausa
    • Strong communication, coordination and representational skills.
    • Contextual knowledge of north east Nigeria (Borno State) preferred.
    • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts

    Method of Application

    We offer

    • Commencement: April 2019
    • Duration: 1 Year
    • Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s general directions (Grade Level 4 Step 1)
    • Duty stations: Maiduguri with 20% frequent travels. Travel outside duty stations is dependent on changing security conditions, especially for certain roads in the area.
    • Approved health certificate will be requested before contract start.
