About the position

As a web developer, you will be responsible for all aspects of front-end & backend web development within a distributed and virtual team and will have much to contribute in shaping the way our digital offering on desktops, tablets and mobiles goes forward. We work to very tight deadlines in a dynamic & challenging commercial environment so you will be at home with the hustle & bustle of commercial production and you will be able to juggle several projects at once and deal with providing estimates on the fly.

As a real self-starter and a keen all-rounder you will be expected to work either as part of a larger team on major website projects, or on smaller projects where you may be given the opportunity to take the lead alongside other developers.
We are not expecting you to be at the top of your game just yet – fingers crossed you’ll get there in time - but you’ll have enough experience with it and be keen enough to be passionate about getting there.

Responsibilities
You’ll be integral in both the design, development and testing of our digital projects. On a daily basis;

• Develop new sites using PHP-based frameworks such as CodeIgniter, Wordpress, Drupal etc,
• Maintain existing sites following best coding practices as agreed by the team,
• Document technical and functional specifications using our collaboration platform (https://shoppi.mangospring.com/).
• Manage your work using our collaboration platform and ensure that deadlines are met and agreements adhered to,
• Mentor junior developers,
• Creative brainstorms for ideas for new projects or tasks,
• Other ad-hoc duties as required.

What you need to know
In a fast, clean and efficient manner, you'll be strongly proficient in:

• Experience of OOP with PHP, MySQL, and GIT
• Standards compliant HTML, HTML 5, CSS, JavaScript (jQuery) and XML.
• MVC design pattern using standard frameworks such as CodeIgniter and/or Laravel
• You will be expected to generate technical solutions to challenges on a daily basis.
• Proactive and willing to take the initiative to meet deadlines in a very fast paced and driven working environment with constantly shifting priorities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. You will be expected to be comfortable with working within a distributed and virtual team, and using tools such as Skype and Join.me.

Optional qualities;

• Experience with responsive web design concepts
• Mobile-optimised design and development
• Experience with working on e-commerce projects
• Integration with systems based on Restful/SOAP standards
• Unit/behaviour testing
• A/B testing

We need a Web Designer to join our team with a proven ability in user-centred design. This job involves designing and building. So don’t apply if you are a fantastic designer that doesn’t know their XHTML from their CSS!
