    Health Journalist

    Job Summary

    • The Health Journalist will be the driving force behind impactful content that sparks dialogue, influences policy, and champions better healthcare for all.
    • S/he will craft captivating articles, reports, and features that resonate with audiences, raise awareness, and spark dialogue.
    • S/he will uncover hidden stories, hold power to account, and advocate for health equity through impactful journalism.
    • The candidate should be a skilled storyteller who can weave words into captivating narratives and is passionate about investigative journalism.

    Scope of Services
    Content Creation & Storytelling

    • Craft compelling and informative articles, reports, and features on a diverse range of health topics, including disease outbreaks, healthcare access, policy decisions, and social determinants of health.
    • Conduct in-depth research and interviews with experts, policymakers, healthcare workers, and community members to gather diverse perspectives and ensure accurate reporting.
    • Develop engaging narratives that resonate with audiences, raise awareness, and inspire action.
    • Research and write public health-focused stories from a solutions journalism lens.
    • Utilize various digital storytelling formats like written articles, videos, podcasts, and infographics to reach a wider audience and maximize impact.
    • Uncover hidden stories and hold power to account by investigating health-related injustices, corruption, and systemic issues impacting access to quality care.
    • Analyze complex data and research findings to translate them into clear, understandable, and actionable insights for the public.
    • Develop data-driven stories and reports that inform policy discussions and advocacy efforts.
    • Foster dialogue and discussions around health issues through social media engagement, public events, and online forums.
    • Build relationships with key stakeholders in the health sector, including NGOs, government agencies, and community organizations.
    • Contribute to building a vibrant online community around health awareness and advocacy.

    Essential Competence & Skills

    • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communication, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 4 years of experience writing for online and/or print publications, preferably focusing on health or development issues.
    • Strong research and investigative skills, with the ability to gather and analyze information from diverse sources.
    • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and engaging content for various audiences.
    • Proficient in digital tools and platforms, including social media and content management systems.
    • Knowledge of using basic video editing and graphic design is an added advantage.
    • Passionate about health equity and social justice and committed to using journalism to drive positive change.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

    Digital Producer

    Job Summary

    • The Digital Producer will support the planning and execution of all production-related functions.
    • S/he will be a creative hub and detail-oriented individual, collaborating to turn ideas into impactful visuals.
    • Working closely with the Production Manager, the ideal candidate will play a vital role in bringing Nigeria Health Watch's programmes to life through compelling video, photography, and graphics.
    • S/he will make a real difference by leveraging requisite skills to advocate for better healthcare in Nigeria. The candidate should be a skilled storyteller with a knack for engaging online audiences and have experience crafting winning campaigns.

    Scope of Services
    Video Production:

    • Assist with developing scripts and storyboards for diverse video projects.
    • Plan video shoots, scouting locations, and coordinating logistics.
    • Work with the production manager and liaising with programme leads and the communications team to ensure production schedules align and deadlines are met.
    • Prepare production sets with lighting, props, and equipment.
    • Capture captivating videos for social media, advocacy, and promotional purposes.
    • Take ownership of recording and editing video and sound projects, incorporating graphics, music, and voice-overs.
    • Archive and manage the video library for easy retrieval.
    • Assist the social media team with shooting and editing short videos for events.

    Audio Production Editing:

    • Proficiency in using industry-standard audio editing software such as Adobe audition.
    • Strong skills in sound design, including the ability to create, edit, and integrate sound effects, music, and voiceovers, along with experience in mixing audio elements to produce clear, high-quality final tracks. Good attention to detail and a critical ear for identifying and correcting audio issues such as background noise, volume inconsistencies, and timing errors.
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with Programme Managers and other team members, understanding and implementing feedback effectively.
    • Organisational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.

    General Production Support:

    • Take quality photos at events and field visits, building a diverse photo library for the organization.
    • Proactively identify and contribute to tasks that support workflow and production efficiency.
    • Maintain detailed records of production equipment usage.
    • Undertake additional tasks as assigned or needed.

    Essential Competencies & Skills

    • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a production-related role, preferably within the non-profit or healthcare sector.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to use video/DSLR cameras and audio recording devices.
    • Well-organized, with ability to track multiple activities and deadlines.
    • Previous experience of producing radio or TV content for development.
    • Good understanding of audience research and application of research findings.
    • Proficient in Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition, Adobe After Effects and photo editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator).
    • Radio and TV production skills
    • Working knowledge of social media platforms and content creation tools is a plus.

    Knowledge Management Lead

    Job Summary

    • The Knowledge Management Lead will play a pivotal role in leading the design and implementation of Nigeria Health Watch’s knowledge management system. S/he will develop and maintain a knowledge management system that meets the organisation's needs.
    • The ideal candidate must be able to design this system and tailor best practices and previous professional experience/skills to suit the organisation’s unique offerings and knowledge products.
    • S/he must drive knowledge management processes by developing tools and approaches, managing and applying learnings to the continuous improvement of the organisation’s activities, building and maintaining a repository of knowledge and shaping how it is used within the organisation.
    • S/he will document and institutionalise processes for more effective work and identify/leverage opportunities to disseminate knowledge products to strategically communicate the work that the organisation does externally. In collaboration with project leads, s/he will drive the publication of the organisation’s knowledge products in reputable, peer-reviewed journals.
    • The candidate must have good time management skills and be able to work with limited supervision to meet deadlines.

    Scope of Services

    • Design and implement a Nigeria Health Watch knowledge management system.
    • Develop tools and processes for effectively documenting and communicating Nigeria Health Watch's work.
    • Document process flows and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of Nigeria Health Watch key activities, such as events, and regularly review and update them, drive their use by team members and ensure adoption for continuous improvement of work flow efficiency.
    • Build the capacity of staff members to use relevant tools and sustain the knowledge management drive within their sphere of work.
    • Support project teams in the proper documentation and storage/archiving of project outputs and knowledge products. Adapt project outputs and knowledge products for external publication in reputable peer-reviewed journals, strengthening the organisation’s external communications and visibility. Lead the writing and research process in Nigeria Health Watch’s areas of work or focus using data collected on the job.
    • Identify relevant conferences, convenings or other opportunities for team members to write, submit and present abstracts on their areas of work (drive this process from end to end).
    • Stay informed about technological advances and industry best practices in knowledge management.
    • Work closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation Lead to ensure the quality of knowledge products and outputs.
    • Supervise rigorous data collection and maintain data quality through verifications and validations.
    • Support procurement and use of suitable IT resources for effective knowledge management.
    • Conduct regular system audits and identify areas for knowledge management process improvement.
    • Develop and share regular performance reports for knowledge management initiatives.
    • Identify and act on opportunities to update knowledge management systems.

    Essential Competencies & Skills

    • Bachelor's Degree in Information Science, Communication, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 4 years of experience in knowledge management.

    Programme Manager, Events

    Event Strategy & Management:

    • Conceptualize and plan impactful events, both virtual and in-person, aligned with organizational health advocacy goals and partner programmes.
    • Conduct thorough research on current health trends and audience needs to inform event themes and content.
    • Develop detailed event proposals and budgets, ensuring all logistics are meticulously planned.
    • Secure partnerships with key stakeholders and sponsors to maximize event reach and impact.
    • Work with the communications team to develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies to promote events and reach target audiences.
    • Work with the communications team on social media campaigns, media relations, and press releases to generate pre-event buzz and post-event engagement.
    • Craft compelling event reports and evaluations to assess impact and inform future initiatives.
    • Facilitate post-event follow-up activities, including stakeholder engagement, advocacy and knowledge sharing.
    • Work closely with Nigeria Health Watch teams and partner organizations to ensure events align with strategic objectives.

    Vendor Management:

    • Engage with potential vendors and suppliers who can provide high-quality products and services within the event's budget.

    • Build and maintain positive relationships with vendors to ensure reliable service and advantageous terms for Nigeria Health Watch events.
    • Competence in drafting and finalising contracts with clear terms and conditions to avoid potential disputes and ensure full compliance and service delivery for events.
    • Establish quality standards for vendors and ensure that services provided meet the required standards for Nigeria Health Events.
    • Manage budgets efficiently, including tracking expenditures and ensuring that vendor costs stay within the allocated budget.
    • Ability to manage timelines, coordinate logistics, and ensure that vendor deliverables align with the overall event timeline and objectives.

    Essential Competencies & Skills

    • Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Public Health, Marketing, Business Administration or a related field.
    • Minimum of 4 years of experience in event planning and management preferably within the health sector and/or non-profit organizations including experience with corporate events, conferences and public events.
    • Experience in vendor management and event budgeting and contract negotiation
    • Proven track record of successfully delivering impactful events on time and within budget.
    • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
    • Excellent writing and editing skills to craft compelling event materials and reports.
    • Proficiency in relevant software tools, including project management platforms, virtual conferencing platforms/tools, and so on.
    • Passion for health advocacy and commitment to using events as a catalyst for positive change.
