    Operations Assistant

    JOB PURPOSE

    The Operations Assistant shall provide leadership in field humanitarian interventions in the assigned Field Office. The incumbent will work closely with the Deputy Head of Mission, all the Support Departments (Administration, Finance, Logistics, Security, and Human Resources), and the Sector Coordinators to ensure organization policies, processes, and procedures are followed. The Head of Field Office will ensure the needs of the INTERSOS facilities are addressed in a timely manner. He/she will also create and maintain close relationships with local government, host community representatives, IDP representatives, local and international NGOs and international organizations, and other stakeholders.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Ensuring all policies and procedures are followed by all staff.
    • Maintains open communication with Deputy Head of Mission, and project staff with a focus on problem solving in the filed.
    • Supports the HR Department in performing specific administrative HR tasks, such as: timely collection of timesheets and staff leave forms and forwarding them to the HR Department; focal point to explain and enforce HR policies;
    • Facilitates the recruitment process of staff in that work location, if necessary;
    • Liaises with HR Department to arrange the arrival of a new staff;
    • Liaises with HR Department, DHoM, and Security Department in case of medical & security evacuation;
    • Serves as Security Focal point, working closely with Security Coordinator and Deuty Head of Mission.
    • Regularly update context and analysis or area’s security
    • Secures INTERSOS premises and personnel and ensure monitoring surveillance equipment; inspects facility compound, equipment, and access points and entry gates;
    • Ensures all staff know, practice, and follow all security standard operating procedures.
    • Ensures Security guards are aware of their responsibilities and present 24/7 on duty; ensure the guards have equipment necessary to perform their responsibilities;
    • Establishes and maintains close relationships local government, community and IDP representatives, other NGOs and International Organizations, and others.
    • Develop positive relationships between project staff, encouraging a One Mission attitude.
    • Performs any other task as assigned.
    • Provide assistance to the internal control department in setting up CRM in your duty locations
    • Assist fleet unit on organizing vehicles between Magumeri and Maiduguri
    • Work closely with the health team on staff and beneficiary movements.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    Professional Requirements:

    • Minimum of BSc. in Social Science or related fields of study.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience in an INGO

    Personal Requirements:

    • Minimum of 3-year experience.
    • Previous experience with NGO is required.
    • Demonstrated understanding of the MOH structure.
    • Demonstrated experience in team management/supervision.
    • Previous experience in Humanitarian assessment, monitoring and evaluation is an asset.

    WASH Officer (Roving)

    JOB PURPOSE

    The position holder is responsible for production of Bill of Quantities (BoQs), of WASH infrastructures Designs, supervision of all construction and rehabilitation activities in INTERSOS - including water supply systems, sanitation facilities and other related infrastructures.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Under the general guidance from the WASH Supervisor, the officer will undertake the following duties.
    • Ensure the development of accurate Bill of Quantities (BoQs) and detailed technical drawings for all the WASH interventions in liaison with relevant technical staff from the government authorities and implementing partners.
    • Supervise and be responsible for all the technical aspect for project implementation, make sure that contractors complete project work in a timely, efficient and accurate manner with respect to standard engineering.
    • Ensure community involvement at all phases of the project and the development of community ownership of the project.
    • Guarantee the respect of construction standards as well as the security practices at the project site.
    • Provide feedback to the monitoring and evaluation system in order to assess the effectiveness and the impact of the projects and propose recommendations for improvement.
    • Contribute to the development of constructive solutions to challenges identified by the community and contractors.
    • Facilitate and maintain a good professional relationship between INTERSOS, communities and contractors.
    • Provide regular written and verbal reports to the WASH supervisor on the infrastructure’s development activities. With the help of the WASH supervisor and the contractor, develop and maintain weekly, monthly plans and written comprehensive records of engineering/WASH work undertaken in the project including site visits and reporting of work progress.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    • A Minimum of HND/Degree in Water Engineering, Civil engineering, or other related discipline.
    • At least 3 years of experience in similar position/related
    • Professional experience in community WASH programs in displaced population
    • Excellent program implementation skills
    • Good communication skills.
    • Fluency in spoken and written English
    • Ability to use and analysis civil and water resources applications (EPANET, AutoCAD etc)
    • Organisational and communication skills, teamwork, meticulous attention to detail and numeracy.

    • Undertake and apply learning from appropriate training and development programmes.
    • Essential computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, internet, etc…).

    • Willing to work extra hours and available at the weekend for emergency cases.
    • Capacity to work under pressure and willingness to work and live in a complex context.
    • Fluency in English, Kanuri, and Hausa.

    OHP Officer

    JOB PURPOSE

    Under the guidance of the WASH Supervisor, the role ensures the effective implementation of WASH activities within IDPs and host communities through good gender balance, community participation and ownership.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Supports in conducting needs assessment and gather information and report to WASH supervisor.
    • Mobilizes, train and follow-up on communities/WASH committees formed and/or trained by INTERSOS in all activities concerning WASH, ensuring good community participation, gender balance and ownership by the community.
    • Facilitates the implementation of WASH activities within IDP and Host Communities, ensuring good community participation, gender balance and ownership of programmes by the community.
    • Under the direction of the WASH Supervisor, plans field activities in communities that reduces WASH-related health risks by training and supervising Community Mobilizers
    • Conducts public Hygiene Promotion sessions in each neighbourhood or village.
    • Conducts periodic focus group discussions, awareness campaign, plan child to child hygiene sessions and organize events with children to raise hygiene and heath awareness.
    • Carries out mobilization of key community stakeholders including protection committee, youths, women, men and host communities to participate in community awareness events/meetings.
    • Ensures constant communication with INTERSOS WASH staff to identify potential problems, formulate recommendations and solutions and report.
    • Conducts regular monitoring visits to the field, to follow-up on INTERSOS activities and ensure community participation.
    • Ensures that consideration is given with focus on gender, protection and HIV/AIDS in water and sanitation activities.
    • Provide detailed, accurate and timely weekly reports to supervisor on activities, challenges and areas in need of improvement

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    • A minimum of Diploma in Environmental Health Studies, Social Sciences or other relevant fields
    • Relevant experience and training in Hygiene Promotion
    • A minimum of three years’ experience in WASH, preferably with a humanitarian organization.
    • Strong humanitarian commitment.
    • Quality: dynamic, autonomous, Proactive, flexible, take initiative.
    • Availability to work in targeted LGAs, Borno State.

    Languages

    • Fluency in English
    • Fluency in Kanuri and Hausa will be considered a plus
