    Climate / System Technology Expert

    Background

    • Green Habitat Initiative (GHI) is planning to pilot the application of a Radio Internet System to support climate-smart agriculture in technical assistance titled RANETA (Radio and Internet for Climate Smart Agriculture) in Kebbi State, Northwest Nigeria. RANETA is a unique exploitation of the Radio and Internet to afford rural communities the opportunity to leverage technology and radio, which has widespread use in rural communities to build the resilience of smallholder agricultural practitioners, promote wider use of agrometeorological services to improve data availability, climate forecasting, early warning, adaptation planning, and decision making in the agricultural sector. In the medium and long term, this project aims to reduce climate risks in agricultural production, thereby improving food supply and livelihood security.
    • As such, Green Habitat Initiative (GHI) is currently seeking to engage a professional Climate Tech Engineer/Agricultural Climatic Expert on a contract basis to act as the climate engineer for a climate-smart agricultural project.

    Responsibilities

    • The Climate Tech Expert will work closely with the program manager and Technical Leads to ensure that agrometeorological services are implemented and utilised to enhance data availability, climate forecasting, early warning systems, and informed decision-making within the project design and implementation.
    • Develop and implement climate technology solutions to enhance agricultural practices.
    • Design, test, and optimise climatic and meteorological forecast systems tailored for agricultural applications.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate climate tech solutions into existing agricultural systems.
    • Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements to contribute to the continuous improvement of our technology solutions.

    Qualifications and required experiences:

    • At least a Master’s Degree in an IT-related field, Engineering, Agronomy, Meteorology, Climate Science, Environmental Science, or other relevant education is required.
    • A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience using climate technology engineering, with a focus on agricultural applications, is desirable.
    • Ability to diagnose existing ICT systems and equipment and propose alternative ways of achieving objectives.
    • Ability to design an ICT system that supports smallholder farmers in working with climate data. Such a system must be able to collect data from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) or other climate data sources and communicate either over RANETA or a system you will design for smallholder farmers in a way that is practical and comprehensible to them.
    • Proficiency in developing and implementing meteorological systems is desirable.
    • Excellent abilities to interact with local stakeholders, collect and evaluate data, and transform the information into high-quality documentation tangible to the target audience are desired.
    • Excellent abilities in research and documentation are required.

    Required Personal Competencies:

    • Excellent interpersonal, consensus-building, and negotiating skills are essential.

    Project Manager

    Backgound

    Position Summary

    • As the PM, you will be responsible for the overall delivery of the technical assistance. Your outputs must be in line with GHI and donor’s expectations as will be set out.
    • You will oversee the activities and outputs of all staff appointed to support the technical assistance. You shall report accordingly, the progress of the work to the Project Director/Team Leader of the technical assistance.

    Responsibilities

    • Oversee the implementation of an 18-month project in Kebbi State, Nigeria, ensuring adherence to timelines and objectives.
    • Manage and lead the project team in the implementation of all activities, proorganisationale and support to ensure effective collaboration and achievement of project goals.
    • Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify opportunities for project enhancement and optimisation.
    • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of project milestones and deliverables.
    • Foster continuous learning and skill development to enhance project outcomes.

    Expected Results

    • At the end of the TA, it is expected that GHI will support its partners in designing a climate technology system that supports smallholder farmers in the planning and executing their farming activities.
    • The technology will be tested and evaluated by its targeted beneficiaries, and it must meet a high-quality standard.

    Qualifications and required experiences

    • Master's Degree in Climatology, Meteorology, Climate Forecast Engineering, Information Systems, Agricultural Engineering or similar is required.
    • A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in managing agricultural and/or climate technology-related programs is required.
    • Experience in diagnosing existing ICT/Climate technologies/systems is desired as designing a blueprint for improvement of the delivery of the systems.
    • Demonstrated experience in developing countries is required.
    • At least 5 years of experience in a project management role is required.
    • Understanding of climate change issues and how they affect agricultural practices in Nigeria.
    • Knowledge of the terrain is desirable.

    • He/she will serve as a point of contact for data collection and aggregation that supports project reporting and will provide inputs to inform project decision-making and adaptive management.
    • Provide strategic oversight of the monitoring and evaluation activities, ensuring alignment with project objectives and contributing to the project's overall success.
    • Design, develop, and implement monitoring and evaluation tools.
    • Organise and implement data collection activities, both qualitative and quantitative, and perform detailed data analysis to derive actionable insights.

    Qualifications and Required Experiences

    • Knowledge of and experience in planning is desired.
    • Proven experience with statistical applications and data analysis; familiarity with both qualitative and quantitative information analysis tools is a requirement.

    • Conduct gender analysis and planning, ensuring that project activities consider and address the specific needs and challenges of different genders and marginalised groups.
    • Work closely with the program manager to ensure the strategic integration of gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) considerations into all project design and implementation aspects.

    • Develop and implement community outreach strategies to engage rural communities in Kebbi State.
    • Collaborate with local stakeholders to raise awareness of the RANETA project and its benefits.
    • Organise and facilitate workshops, training sessions, and community events.
    • Provide technical assistance and support to community members on utilising RANETA technology effectively.
