    University Librarian

    Role Overview

    As a Librarian at NUTM, you will play a vital role in managing and providing access to information resources, supporting research, learning, teaching, and recreational activities. You will oversee the administration and coordination of the University Library to ensure adequate access to library resources for students and faculty.

    This role requires a strong commitment to service, excellent organizational skills, and a deep understanding of library systems and practices.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities

    Collection Development and Management:

    • Acquire, organize, and maintain a diverse collection of print and electronic resources, including books, journals, databases, and multimedia materials.
    • Collaborate with faculty to assess collection needs and ensure alignment with academic programs and research areas.
    • Implement efficient cataloguing, classification, and preservation practices for library materials.

    Reference and Research Support:

    • Provide expert assistance to students, faculty, and staff in utilizing library resources, including effectively accessing and navigating databases and online resources.

    User Services:

    • Develop and implement user-focused library services and programs, including orientation sessions, workshops, and interlibrary loan services.
    • Manage library circulation operations, including check-in/check-out procedures, reserves, and overdue materials.

     Information Literacy Instruction:

    • Collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy skills into the curriculum.
    • Design and deliver instructional sessions and workshops to enhance students' research capabilities.
    • Develop online research guides, tutorials, and other resources to support self-directed learning.

    Digital and Technological Initiatives:

    • Oversee the implementation and management of library automation systems, digital repositories, and online databases.
    • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in libraries and information science.

    F. Collaboration and Outreach:

    • Collaborate with faculty, departments, and university units to support research projects, curriculum development, and scholarly activities.
    • Engage in outreach activities to promote library resources and services within the university community.
    • Cultivate partnerships with other libraries, consortia, publishers, and universities to enhance resource sharing, interlibrary cooperation, and research.

    G. Collection Assessment and Evaluation:

    • Evaluate the usage and effectiveness of library resources and services through data analysis and user feedback.
    • Make informed decisions regarding resource acquisition, subscription renewals, and collection maintenance10

    Preferred Candidate

    • A Master's degree in Library Science and Information Science or a related field, a Doctoral Degree in Librarianship or Library / Information Studies or Sciences is preferred.
    • At least ten (10) years relevant post-qualification experience in an institute of higher learning, preferably in a technology-focused institution.
    • In-depth knowledge of library systems, cataloguing, classification, and information retrieval methods.
    • Be a member of the Library Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) and Nigeria Library Association, and other professional associations.
    • Evidence of continual scholarship and contribution to knowledge through publications in reputable peer-reviewed outlets, both in Nigeria and globally.
    • Experience with current library technologies, digital repositories, and online databases.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Proficiency in computers and data analysis and assessment techniques.
