    Senior Tax Officer

    Role Description

    • This is a full-time on-site role located in Lagos for a Senior Tax Officer.
    • The Senior Tax Officer will be responsible for analyzing financial statements, reviewing tax returns, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
    • The Senior Tax Officer will also provide advice on tax matters and prepare reports for management.

    Tax Management

    • Researching, analysing and interpreting changing tax legislation in Nigeria
    • Preparing and submitting compliance (tax) returns by the deadline, such as but not limited to
    • ITF Compliance, PAYE Compliance, NSITF Compliance, VAT Compliance, CIT Compliance, WHT Compliance, Education Tax Compliance, Pension Compliance
    • Liaising and negotiating with the relevant tax and regulatory authorities on behalf of the Company
    • Creating tax strategies and adequate planning for the Company
    • Carrying out detailed computations to calculate tax liability and advising on how to minimise tax exposures
    • Providing guidance on indirect taxation issues such as VAT, customs planning and environmental taxes
    • Producing reports and presentations for Management

    Fixed Assets

    • Create and monitor a system of controls, procedures, and forms for the recording of Fixed Assets
    • Record fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions in the accounting system
    • Track the compilation of project costs into fixed asset accounts, and close out those accounts once the related projects have been completed
    • Conduct periodic reviews of the fixed asset schedule to determine dispositions
    • Reconcile the balance in the fixed asset subsidiary ledger to the general ledger
    • Run depreciation for all fixed assets
    • Prepare audit schedules relating to fixed assets, and assist the auditors in their inquiries
    • Conduct periodic impairment reviews for intangible assets
    • Conduct periodic physical inventory counts of fixed assets

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required, Master's degree is preferred
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar senior tax position
    • Strong knowledge of Nigerian corporate tax principles, laws, and regulations
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment
    • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Professional qualification in accounting or taxation (e.g. ICAN, CITN)
