    Manager, Data Analytics and Visualization

    Overall Purpose

    • The Manager, Data Analytics and Visualization (DAV) will lead analysis of existing data sets (e.g., household income and expenditure surveys, similar national or multi-country quantitative data).
    • Acting as the lead focal point, they will be responsible for providing expert advice as well as technical and analytical support for research and evaluations managed/ commissioned by GAIN and will lead on the proposed approaches to and development of data visualizations for use by countries, program leads and senior management.
    • This position will report to the Director, Knowledge Leadership (KL) but will engage intensively with GAIN senior management and country teams to support data needs for strategy and proposal development, with all KL Senior Technical Specialists in support of research and evaluation, and members of the Program Services Team (e.g., Technical Officer, Reaching the very poorest).

    Tasks and Responsibilities

    • Oversee and identify appropriate analytical methods for research studies conducted / commissioned by GAIN and when needed analyse data
    • Develop, manage, and ensure critically review analysis plans and reports from research partners and develop reports/publications that consolidate evidence from single to several programs for diverse technical audiences.
    • Manage and quality assure quantitative analytical work undertaken or funded by GAIN as required
    • Identify and analyse data publicly available data sets that can be used to generate insights relevant for food systems and nutrition for strategy documents, donor proposals, reports, presentations (for expert and non-expert audiences)
    • Lead a body of work that will improve GAIN’s capacity to measure food affordability
    • Oversee and support others to ensure timely and appropriate project management of such projects within GAIN’s project management methods and systems
    • Provide high level leadership to team members, including mentorship to early career staff and students as direct reports and through participation in learning activities led by the KL team.
    • Identify opportunities and lead efforts to fundraise for GAINs analytical work
    • Any other related activities as guided by Director, Knowledge Leadership.

    • Director Knowledge Leadership (line manager)
    • KL Senior Technical Specialists and KL Teams
    • GAIN Senior Management including Executive Director, Director of Programmes Services
    • Works closely with country directors and their teams.

    Requirements
    Education:

    • PhD in Statistics, Epidemiology, or related field with extensive focus and coursework on complex statistical analyses or equivalent.

    Experience:

    • Substantial experience creating R packages, and using R Shiny, GitHub, Python, Computable General Equilibrium modelling (or similar)
    • Demonstrated experience in critical analysis skills to support with evidence generation and reporting
    • Track record of publication(s) in high impact peer reviewed journals commensurate with demonstrable experience
    • Advanced skills in multivariate analysis of complex data sets using R, Stata, SAS, or SPSS
    • Hands on experience doing research in low- or middle-income country, in collaboration with local research counterparts
    • Proposal writing and fundraising experience highly desirable
    • Expertise in data management and analysis tools and software an asset.

    Competencies:

    • Deep knowledge and experience analysing multi-country data sets including national/ regional food price data, household economic surveys (e.g., household budget surveys, household income and expenditure surveys, household consumption and expenditure surveys, or living standards measurement studies).
    • Skilled at creation of high quality and innovative data visualizations (for communication of findings to expert and non-expert audiences)
    • Ability to use qualitative research approaches and how findings complement quantitative results
    • Excellent writing and presentation skills (for expert audiences)
    • Excellent communication and facilitation between programme teams with varying levels of technical knowledge
    • Proven leadership skills and mentoring experience.

    Other Requirements:

    • Fluency in spoken and written English required; fluency in a second language (such as French or Portuguese) will be an asset.

    Our Offer

    • Salary: N10,645,932 - N12,172,47 annually.
