    Country Project Director - Nigeria

    JSI Seeks a Country Project Director (CPD), Located In Nigeria, For An Anticipated CDC-funded Global Health Project, That Focuses On Strengthening Routine Immunization Programs In Priority Countries. The Country Project Director Will Provide Collaborative Leadership To

    • strengthen immunization delivery systems, programs, and capacities in high priority countries, identify and vaccinate zero- and under-dose children; plan and implement supplemental immunization campaigns;
    • support polio eradication, measles mortality reduction and regional measles and rubella elimination, hepatitis B and maternal and neonatal tetanus elimination;
    • vaccine-preventable diseases (VPD) surveillance;
    • strengthen global laboratory networks for polio and measles/rubella.

    These functions are critical to achieving globally and regionally agreed goals for polio eradication, VPD elimination and reduction.

    This position is contingent on project award.

    Responsibilities
    The Country Project Director will be the primary point of contact in Nigeria, reporting to the overall Project Director, and is responsible for providing leadership for the successful technical and management of the work and partners in Nigeria.

    • Serve as the country technical representative with CDC, MOH, and other national/international agencies, institutions, and stakeholders.
    • Provide management and technical oversight for the Nigeria portfolio and funding streams, and overall risk management for the program.
    • Directly supervise senior members of the team and provide leadership for the full project team.
    • Assure compliance with JSI and CDC policies, rules and regulations, as well as in-country legal and regulatory frameworks, and assure open and transparent communication with the home office and the assigned Country Team Leads.
    • Manage the successful performance of the project and oversee the preparation of routine and ad hoc performance reports and technical deliverables.
    • Ensure accuracy and timely submission of all quarterly/annual reporting requirements.
    • Ensure quality and timeliness of work and the completion of all activities within budget.
    • Oversee the development of appropriate planning, monitoring, management and control systems to ensure informed decision-making and implementation of project activities.
    • Oversee monitoring of project activities and ensure incorporation of lessons learned into ongoing activity tasks. Ensure performance against targets. Take corrective action where necessary.
    • Communicate regularly with the central JSI team, sharing information in a timely manner.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    Qualifications

    • Advanced degree in public health, immunization, supply chain management, management or a related social science or the equivalent in practical experience;
    • At least 10 years of direct experience with EPI program and/or immunization management required;
    • Knowledge of the principles and practice of public health. Strong understanding of routine immunizations and health system strengthening, principles of vaccine preventable disease surveillance and elimination, and implementation of outreach activities;
    • Ability to review and analyze routine immunization data, monitor and present program progress;
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a complex, multi-intervention health development program in collaboration with national health ministries and international partners to achieve project goals
    • Personal and professional commitment to gender equity;
    • Ability to travel within Nigeria and internationally when needed;
    • Demonstrated project management and leadership skills with an ability to take initiative;
    • Proven ability to represent project and /or organization effectively to senior level government officials, funders, and other global stakeholders;
    • Effective presentation and strong advocacy skills;
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English is required;
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with a diverse team of partners and counterparts.
