    Lead Pharmacist

    Role Purpose and Summary:

    Responsible for the profitable running of NLCC Pharmacy in compliance with professional standards and regulatory requirements.

    Role Description

    We are seeking a Lead Pharmacist for our cancer treatment facility in Lagos State, Nigeria. This is a full-time on-site role. As the Lead Pharmacist, you will be responsible for overseeing the pharmacy operations and ensuring the safe and effective use of medications in the treatment of cancer patients. Your main tasks will include managing medication inventory, conducting medication reviews, supervising pharmacy staff, and collaborating with oncologists and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care.

    Responsibilities:

    • Coordinates and oversees the workflow in the retail pharmacy.
    • Promotes teamwork within the Pharmacists and other team members.
    • Coach and mentor staff through feedback, positive discipline and performance evaluations.
    • provide leadership to assigned Pharmacy staff by proactively assisting in high level clinical tasks, operations, training and education, and act as a liaison between staff and management.
    • Coordinate the daily activities of the pharmacy technicians and pharmacists in their area of practice/responsibility.
    • Demonstrate a service orientation toward patients, staff and visitors.
    • Ensures the retail Pharmacy is profitable and sustainable.\
    • Develop pharmacy policies in accordance with regulatory requirements and ensure compliance.
    • Develop workflow guidelines, policies and procedures, and other necessary tools (assignment sheets, scheduling, etc.) to maximize productivity and standardize practices in the department and/or practice area
    • Consults with pharmaceutical companies in terms of old, new and currents medications.
    • Manages Inventory and supply chain. Assure adequate inventory of drugs and supplies necessary for proper patient care.
    • Ensure and Assist in the procurement as needed, by following established procedures.
    • Audit and maintain accurate records for all controlled substances. Assure that all such drugs are stored and dispensed in compliance with Regulations.
    • Ensures all drugs are adequately delivered by adhering to transportation and delivery procedures.
    • Instructs and advises patients on how and when to take prescribed medicine and inform them about potential side effects they may experience.
    • Administers vaccinations.
    • Mixing Chemotherapy drugs.
    • Consults with oncologists, resident oncologists , oncology nurse and other practitioners on patients and their medications.
    • Ensures the pharmacy runs in accordance to company policies and procedures and in compliance to regulatory bodies.
    • Gives regular reports to management on activities on the retail pharmacy.
    • Provide timely, comprehensive and accurate drug information to Clinicians/consultants, nurses, patients and personnel of other departments.
    • Supervise the daily activities and assist in training and education of pharmacy technicians, pharmacists and student interns.
    • Assure that the proper drug is dispensed to the correct patient for administration at the appropriate time, and that proper technique is used in the preparation of drugs
    • Use computer skills to process patient medication orders/prescriptions and maintain all necessary patient information.
    • Evaluate each patient’s medication order/prescription for appropriateness of drug selection, drug dosage and dosage form, taking into consideration patient specific factors such as disease state(s), age, weight, sex, eliminating organ function, diagnosis and allergies. Apply pharmacokinetic principles when appropriate. Consult with prescriber for corrections or clarifications if needed.
    • Other duties as may be assigned.

    Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm)
    • Operating Pharmacy License by the approved Board in Nigeria.
    • Minimum of 8 years relevant experience.
    • A minimum of 4 years in supervisory and Managerial role.
    • Firm knowledge of Pharmacy regulatory bodies in Nigeria.
    • Experience in Oncology drugs is an added advantage.
